Panasonic HDC-HS100

The Panasonic HDC-HS100 is a High Definition camcorder that measures 2.9 x 3.0 x 5.4 inches (W x H x D) and weighs approximately 14.8 ounces. It features Panasonic’s new 1/6-inch 3MOS sensors that feature 5.2 effective megapixels. The camera is equipped with Leica Dicomar optics with an advanced optical image stabilizer (OIS). The HDC-HS100 offers 12x optical zoom and digital zoom of up to 700x.

The camcorder captures digital videos in AVCHD and analog videos in NTSC. Still images are saved in JPEG format. It shoots at a minimum shutter speed of 1/60 seconds and a maximum of 1/8000 seconds.

The HDC-HS100 features a 2.7-inch rotating TFT active matrix LCD display with 300,000 pixels. It also comes with a 0.44-inch LCD electronic viewfinder that has a resolution of 183,000 pixels. The camcorder also has a built-in speaker as well as an integrated Dolby Digital 5.1 channel zoom microphone with wind noise reduction, focus, and surround sound features.

The Panasonic HDC-HS100 has a built-in 60-gigabyte hard disk drive. Depending on the mode used, the hard disk drive can record anywhere from 7 hours and 40 minutes (HA mode – 1920 x 1080) to 23 hours (HE mode – 1440 x 1080). The camcorder also has an expansion slot for SD and SDHD memory cards.

The camcorder, which is powered by an included lithium ion battery, offers a number of connection types. Apart from an HDMI terminal, it offers a USB port, a composite AV output, a component video output, a DC power input, a microphone jack, and a headphone jack.

Other features of the JVC GZ-MS100 include face detection, DPOF support, and PictBridge support.

    There are other options if you want to stick with non-linear media (no tape), but don't like the idea of having a huge hard drive inside your camcorder. The Panasonic HDC-SD100 is identical to the HDC-HS100, but records solely to SD/SDHC cards, reducing the overall size and weight. Canon offers three solid state HD camcorders—the HF100, HF10, and HF11—and Sony offers the HDR-CX12 and the ultra-compact HDR-TG1. Read more

    I have only set the time and date, charged the battery, installed the SD card. Went and took a little video and a couple of pictures. Ease of use, A+, Color is amazing, the sound is amazing. Love at First Sight, Love this camera. Read more
