Nearly Professional Results

Lazlo, Panasonic
22 February 2014
  • Summary: I got this camcorder just before Christmas. I shot a couple of minutes in very poor light to familiarize myself with the camera. With no lighting from the camera or other sources results were grainy and disappointing. I would have given up. However, next morning I shot another three minute clip in moderate, hazy SoCal light. WOW! I couldn't believe my eyes. It looked like HDTV! Hand held, the shots were stable and focusing seemed to follow my eye movements.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy to use, Exceeded expectations, Convenient, fantastic colors in good light, accurate focus, still quality, very much worth the high cost
  • Cons: no easy fit for strap

Very nice camera

  • Excerpt: Great picture. New to the digital world of camcorders. Did a lot of research and decided on the Panasonic 720. Very pleased with decision. User friendly and the picture stabilization feature is amazing. Bought to video indoor basketball games. It is awesome indoors and outdoors.

terrible picture quality - my iPhone takes much better pictures

JG, Amazon
14 February 2014
  • Summary: I dumped $500 on this piece of mess, and I'm going to throw it away. Side-by-side comparisons of the same scene at the same time, shot with the V720 and the iPhone5 revealed the V720 to be shockingly inferior. The V720 focus was always slightly off, despite shooting on manual focus at infinity. The contrasts are punched so hard that the colors bleed into each other.

OK if shooting in the daytime

Coffeehouse shooter, B&H Photo
12 February 2014
  • Excerpt: I was hoping this would have a higher-quality picture than it does. The video screen display is lovely, but the resulting video doesn't come close to the preview. I shoot video in relatively low-light small coffeehouse venues. The camera's resulting video appears out of focus (soft) and with little contrast. Post-processing required. I saw other reviews about being able to hear the zoom control click in the final video. And that is the case.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Zoom range/performance
  • Cons: Poor Image Quality, Poor In Low Light

Decent Camera

Cmoore, B&H Photo
12 February 2014
  • Excerpt: I do local recordings of meetings, plays, bands, etc. I've even done local commercials for some antique retailers. I have been in the market for a new camera. I researched cameras for weeks prior to purchasing one. I finally decided to go with the HC-V720. I was pretty excited about getting it, considering the reviews it has seen. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I am returning the camera for a refund to put towards something else. (I have yet to decide).
  • Pros: Great Sound, Large Clear LCD
  • Cons: Poor Image Quality, Poor In Low Light, Poor Still Image

Not as good as a DSLR

Frank, B&H Photo
7 February 2014
  • Excerpt: I use this for instructional videos that I post on YouTube. Before this camera, I was using a Canon T3 (720p), which does not do autofocus while in movie mode, so that I had to manual focus every time I changed the view.<br />The autofocus on the V720 is a lot more convenient, but I found the picture quality less, both in terms of color rendering and sharpness, even though the V720 does 1080p.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good battery life, Good in Low Light, Large Clear LCD
  • Cons: Disappointing Image Quali, Poor Still Image

Nice camcorder

6 February 2014
  • Excerpt: Great features. Light weight. Wifi works well with short delay. Can't use wifi while plugged into another HD monitor. Would be nice to have an A/V-R jack for another remote possibility. Nice video quality.

Excellent camcorder

Dr Za, B&H Photo
4 February 2014
  • Excerpt: I shopped around a lot before deciding on this unit. Very happy with it - all the consumer camera stuff you expect with a nice 1/2.3 sensor. This V720 is more expensive if you look elsewhere. The wifi phone remote is very cool. Stabilization is the best I've seen, zoom is smooth and quite powerful. Auto lens-cap works great and never slows you down, the sound is really fantastic.

Arrived without a memory card

Dr John, Amazon
2 February 2014
  • Summary: I was all set to use the camera and found that the card was not included. Had to go out and buy one. Seems a little lame to me, and really disappointing upon opening the box, wanting to use the camera..

Basic Function Review

Sam T, B&H Photo
27 January 2014
  • Excerpt: This camera outputs some really great looking video if you're on a budget, and the built-in mic isn't half bad. Some of the options and controls are not intuitively found, so you ought to give the manual a good read through if you want to find out every trick this pony has. I'm far from a video expert, and there are a lot of features of this camera I haven't, and likely won't ever, use. That said, I'm satisfied with the files this camera records.
  • Pros: Great Picture Quality, Great Sound, Large Clear LCD
  • Cons: Poor In Low Light
