Panasonic has once again brought a top notch product to the market that is going to raise the bar for the competition. The Panasonic AG-HVX200 offers professional quality HD features at a price point that is lower than ever before. Although you may still have to pay close to $5,000 for the AG-HVX200, the benefits that you receive are well worth it.
The AG-HVX200 is building on Panasonic models of the past. Do you remember the AG-DVX100? Although this new model is much more advanced, this is where everything started. This model appropriately brings high quality and performance to a smaller package and price point.
There are many features that make the AG-HVX200 among the best in the industry. These include among others the ability to shoot in both SD and HD formats, a range of frame rates that will satisfy any videographer, P2 media capabilities, and 1080p DVCPro HD. Unfortunately, the P2 cards are still very expensive at this point and since they are still relatively small you will have to frequently transfer footage to your hard drive.
Where the AG-HVX200 really shines is with its superb HD video quality. The quality you receive is something that you would expect on cameras that are twice as expensive. When you combine this with a wide zoom lens and several frame rate choices it is easy to see why there is so much buzz surrounding the AG-HVX200.
The biggest downfall of the AG-HVX200 is the hard to understand user interface. If you buy this model you should be prepared to take plenty of time to learn how each feature works. Additionally, the AG-HVX200 is a bit heavy for long term shooting.
Overall, the benefits of the Panasonic AG-HVX200 far outweigh the drawbacks. For this reason consumers will be sure to give this model a long hard look.
The Panasonic AG-HVX200 is an excellent high definition video camera. I understand why professionals use it for shooting TV commercials. It has tremendous flexibility and very low video noise, along with superb color rendition. However, there are other pro HD cameras emerging now that have 1080i resolution in the same general price range, and it will be interesting to see if the HVX200 can continue to compete in this market. I should begin by pointing out that I'm fairly new to video. My idea of a camera has always been a Leica M6 hanging over my shoulder, and extra rolls of film in my pocket. Now, as a burgeoning documentary maker, I find myself loaded down with bags of ligh... Read more
Why ever use tape again, ever. The option to shoot in so many different compression formats is great. Even if you arent using HD, just standard def. You put the p2 card in, shoot, pull it out, put it in your computer...so easy. No more real time transfers from tape to computer. Read more
