Summary: i purchased a new Zi8 in the spring, relying on the Kodak name and the fact that a memory card could be used. After a week, the camera stopped working. I called Kodak customer service who tried to troubleshoot the issue as they should. FAter that didn't work, I was given a case ID and instructions to send it in for repair under warranty. Several weeks later i received a refurbished unit with a note stating they decided to replace rather than repair.
Summary: This camera disguises itself as a quality camera but it actually a very poor quality product. The audio playback is so low that it is almost impossible to hear. The 4x zoom is digital only and the picture becomes grainy as soon as you use it. Individual pictures are not as good as those taken with a low cost digital camera. Our Droid X cell phone from Verizon is a much better camera. We purchased this camera about 14 months ago and only used it a couple of times.
Summary: This is a decent enough camera for youtube-quality video. If you expect anything beyond this, skip it. For a Kodak-designed product, the usability is at an alltime low. This is simlar to Gen 1 of the photo frames kodak made which perpetually lost their wireless connections. Think I'd wait about 2-3 more iterations.
Summary: This camera creates video in the .mov format and cannot be edited on Windows Movie Maker without acquiring new software to first convert the files. Once converted, the video looks generational and just not as good as in its native format. You will not be satisfied with the results. Using the ArcSoft editor that comes with this camera is also not satisfying. It is basic and completely disappointing, especially when compared with WMM's simple editing features.
Summary: I bought this camera for a Christmas present for my husband. We have yet gotten it to work. We finally called Kodak for assistance who had us run through all the usual steps and finally said to send it in to have it repaired. It is now April and still no video camera. This is not what I paid for. Even if we get it back and it works great, having to wait over 4 months for a present to work is ridiculous.
Summary: This camcordette looked good on paper, and it got good reviews initially. One big attraction for me was the external microphone jack, as I wanted to use it for interviews. I tried to order from Amazon.com but there was no stock, so I went to Best Buy. The camera I got had a ridiculous number of flaws, indicating poor quality control at Kodak. I had the problem of magenta & green vertical lines in the video images.
Summary: I'll try to keep this as short as possible. I bought this camera a month ago directly from the Kodak online store. Upon arrival, the camera displayed noticeable vertical lines in all of the modes except 1080p. These vertical lines appeared both on the external LCD display as well as when the files were transferred to a computer. I tried three different SDHC cards (all class 6), and upgrading the firmware. No dice.
Summary: Received the camera in the time promised, unfortunately it did not work at all, dead as a dodo. Paid postage for return, sadly, more than was refunded to me by Amazon. To make matters worse no replacement was available to send back to me.As there was no life whatsoever in the camera, I am not in a position to comment on it's performance.
