21 January 2011
Excerpt: The Kodak Playsport video camera packs a powerful punch as a high-quality, affordable option for consumers seeking a user-friendly device that shoots digital video in HD. Throughout our Kodak Playsport tests, the durable waterproof camera performed exceptionally...
Conclusion: The Playsport ticks a lot of positive boxes: we liked the design and loved the quality on most of what we recorded. A bigger screen and improved zoom would add further kudos, but we definitely rated this pocket-sized shooter’s all-round game.
Pros: This is a good-value camera and one that delivers decent levels of detail, accurate colours and sharp focusing. It’s easy to use, quick to record, and is YouTube-friendly, too, offering a simple and straightforward way of uploading and sharing your clips. The design makes it feel rugged, and yes, it copes admirably with a dunking in water.
Cons: There’s not too much to criticise the Playsport for, as it’s generally a fresh and fun camcorder/camera. We didn’t really rate it’s low-light performance, which was a bit murky and the 4x zoom felt ‘sticky’ when we wanted it to be smooth.
Excerpt: The Kodak PlaySport Zx3 is an ultra-portable digital camcorder designed for those who enjoy the more rugged outdoor pursuits; tough, waterproof and able to shoot 1080p video and take 5-megapixel stills, it should be perfect for catching those essential moments during extreme sports. Let’s take a look and see if it lives up to Kodak’s billing of having “as much appetite for adventure as you do”…..
Summary: While many pocket camcorders have been designed for general purpose use, the Kodak Playsport is aimed more at the more adventurous members of society. To this end the Playsport combines electronic image stabilising technology, to assist when capturing sporting events, with the ability to be waterproof up to a depth of 10 feet for recording aquatic expeditions.
Summary: Around 18 months ago I told you about the Kodak ZX1 their first foray in the very popular pocket (mobile phone size) camcorder arena. Here is - I think - their next offering the ZX3 which gives you the ability to capture movies underwater to 3metres depth.
Excerpt: The Playsport Zx3 is an average-sized pocket camcorder, with dimensions of 2.3 by 4.4 by 0.8 inches. Everything you need to operate the camcorder is on its body; it doesn’t use touchscreen controls. On its backside are a 2in LCD, a record button, a playback button, a delete button, a settings button and a navigation button ring. On its right side, hidden behind a pop-out panel, is a HDMI port, a USB port and an AV-out port.
Pros: Great still photos; very good video and image quality; waterproof down to 10 feet deep
Cons: Button layout often leads to accidental presses
