JVC's tiny and trendy full-HD camcorder looks fit for a Paris runway, price tag and all. Traditional camcorders have a basic style that hasn’t really changed since the ‘80s. Oh, you’ll see a few attempts at a vertical shape now and then, or some fun with body materials, like the new Samsung models that use the Touch of Color finish first seen on Samsung HDTVs. Read more

    • Full HD, 9MP stills, 5x zoom, unique form factor
    • Love-it-or-hate-it styling

The GZ-X900 ($999 MSRP ) is the newest top-of-the-line HD camcorder from JVC , and it’s a model that is unique in both design and capability. The camcorder has a streamline, rectangular construction that does away with the traditional right-side hand strap. It has the ability to take impressive 9-megapixel still images, and it offers three high-speed recording options that can capture ultra-slow motion video (up to 600fps). Read more

The GZ-X900 isn't worth the price. It will have difficulty competing with the Panasonic HDC-SD200 which has a better zoom, or the Canon HF200. Read more

    • Powerful optical stabilisation, Stylish design
    • Weak optical zoom, Pricey, Microphone in an unusual position, Touchscreen can be tricky

Despite a few complaints, and the camera’s poor results in low light, I admit the Everio X gives me more satisfaction than the high-end Sanyo Xacti or Sony’s latest compact Handycam TG5V or TG7, in both low and bright light. Yes, despite my few complaints and compared to the competition, the Everio X is really shinning here and I will without a minutes hesitation recommend it over the Xacti HD2000, FH11 or Sony’s TG5V (TG7)… I just hope that the next Everio X... The JVC Everio GZ-X900 is a slim, light and handsome camcorder that doubles up as a very decent camera. At the top settings, video and still-image quality are both good, but, while the slow-motion modes and unique optical image stabiliser are interesting extras, a few niggles and the high price might make you think twice Read more

    • Good picture quality, Three slow-motion modes, Effective optical image stabiliser, Unusual but appealing design
    • Expensive, Fiddly menu system, Only 5x optical zoom

I've done a lot of research before getting this product. In particular I was interested in the largest CMOS sensor I can get "for the buck". I took a chance and purchased mine used, but I got an excellent deal. This camera will shoot absolutely stunning quality video in sufficient light conditions. Talking about light: if you're serious about indoor shooting, look up backdrops and light umbrellas, they are very affordable. Read more

I have just purchased this camcorder, for £249.99, a big jump from the £900 reviewed price. Having read many reviews, including cnets, I still went ahead and grabbed one. I'll never use the high-speed video option, this gimick didn't put me off as I was more interested in the Full HD side of things. Having tested the HD video, I can confirm the quality is amazing. • Very good video image quality, also stills are great.
    • The high speed video I don't use, Laser touch, should have been touch screen.
