Summary: The hard drive kept failing; I sent it back for a refund in the end. Hard drives are best left standing still. I ended up with a Sony mini dv model. Much cheaper and better qaulity with more edit options. Don't get caught up with the hype. These HDD items are not up to scratch at the cheaper end of the market at the moment.
Summary: Bought the camera second hand for approx half new price - previous owner wanted to use it for stills as well as video but found the still performance poor so part exd it for a stills only camera.I find the selector switch at the top of the cam fiddly to use;the battery life is too short for a 30Gb disc;the poor light performance is very weak;the playback sound on the camera is too quiet;the software supplied is complete rubbish.Good optical and digital zooms;good general...
Summary: This camera has all the attributes of a 'rushed job' product. I can't believe JVC made any attempt to road test it before releasing it onto the market, otherwise they would have seen how terribly flawed it was. Mechanically it seems quite robust, is pretty easy to use, has the advantage of both 4:3 and 16:9 capability together with a vary useful 'thumbnail' index and the 30GB drive represents what would be a very large cardboard box of tapes .
Excerpt: No need to worry about taking a stack of DVD`s to record on, whilst on a family holiday (that you have to keep out of reach of little hands). On the finest quality recording I have over 7 hours of memories. The only negative point is the battery life (one hour max)....buy a spare battery! (After all you wont have the cost of tapes or dvd`s anymore).
Excerpt: An excellent camcorder, image is great, very easy to use, easy to upload onto your PC. I have not used the still picture function as I did not buy it for that so cannot comment, but the video part for which I bought the unit is fantastic. Battery life is not very good, but buy a couple and you have a great camcorder.
Excerpt: This JVC camcorder is mediocre at best. As a first time camcorder buyer, I wanted a camera that produced good quality video footage (I wasn`t too worried about the stills), which was easy to upload and edit. In all fairness, Hard Drive camcorder footage is very quick and easy to upload onto a PC, but I was very disappointed with the quality of the video I saw on my computer screen.
