  • Summary: This camera is excellent. The color is very good, and the picture is sharp. The camera is easy to use, and seems to be well built. The price I paid is very low in relation to the quality of the camera.

"Excellent HD Camcorder with Amazing Video"

Chriztofor, CNET
29 December 2008
  • Pros: AMAZING Video Quality; Three (3) 1/5 inch CCDs; Hard Drive (My DV tapes on my old camcorder are deteriorating); Easy transfer of videos to PC; Price; Also still images are nice!
  • Cons: JVC has its own format so you must use the software that comes with it or buy software that is compatible. Low light is ok, but all camcorders are "ok" in low light.

JVC Everio GZ-HD5 Camcorder

Territan, Rate it all!
5 December 2008
  • Summary: My parents have a JVC mini-DV camcorder, purchased several years ago, which works very well for them. Sadly, that camera works better for me than this one. That one does video through i.LINK, this one doesn't. That one uses conventional mini-DV tapes. On this one, the tapeless workflow would be very nice, if the workflow worked with anything outside what tools they provide.

JVC Everio GZ-HD5 Camcorder

R.Rivera, Rate it all!
26 November 2008
  • Summary: I like the size, and fits perfectly on your hand. The stabilized zoom doesnt work as well as other cameras. When downloading to your computer, MAC or PC, you will need to buy the plugins to be able to import them into your video editing programs. (premiere, iMovie, Final Cut...). It has it's own proprietary file type. (MOD & TOD) which is supposed to be MPEG 2.

Good product in a small package, but....

Ritzy, B&H Photo
3 July 2008
  • Summary: I was looking for a small HD camera which would produce good images. The HD5 is a good product but...I felt the lack of optical stabilization downgraded the picture. What turned out to my main concern was that it would not interface with my edit system and its menu options are confusing. I returned my and exchanged for a Canon HV 30 , which is a little larger and record to DV tape. For me that works much better.
  • Pros: Comfortable to Operate, Durable, Great Features
  • Cons: Complicated To Operate, Low-Quality Recordings, Poor Battery Life
