JVC Everio GZ-HD40 review

Techworld
24 November 2008
  • Summary: The JVC Everio GZ-HD40 isn't a bad HD camcorder - in fact, it's pretty good. People seeking a tapeless camcorder that they can use with a modest PC today and a more powerful computer in the future may find the GZ-HD40's multiple recording formats compelling. In the end, though, dabblers will likely consider this camera too expensive, while experienced users may find it too limited. Other camcorders offer better images and usability at a lower price.

JVC Everio GZ-HD40 Review

Digitaltrends

  • Conclusion: The GZ-HD40 and its smaller sibling, the HD30, are weird ducks. They take quality video but I don’t understand the need for two types of HD recording. I would much rather see JVC use MPEG-2 TS and add optical image stabilization. That would be a much more appealing package. Bottom line? A solid but not outstanding high-def camcorder but you have to love that 120GB HDD.
  • Pros: Massive 120GB hard drive; great color in good light; compact and responsive
  • Cons: No optical image stabilization; noisy in low light; zoom could be more powerful

  • Pros: Compact, 120GB hard drive
  • Cons: Lacks a viewfinder, frame-rate options are limited, fails to wow

  • Conclusion: A great leap forward in image quality from JVC, but the lower capacity model is the better buy.

Zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe - JVC GZ-HD30/GZ-HD40

slashCAM
25 August 2009
