I'll Never own JVC product again

Dude, Amazon
21 August 2013
  • Summary: Bare in mind that this is not about this product, Manufacture only. I have had two different JVC Camcorders in the past. One a Mini DV camera that was plagued with problems. One the Image sensor died, under warranty luckily. They knew they had an issue with them. Then the display acted up, then it just gave up completely, It sucked. Then I got a much better one, don't recall the model but I think it was one of their first Hard Drive recording cameras.

My first HD camcorder

Elis Rojas, Amazon
1 March 2010
  • Summary: I got the JVC GR-HD1 on 2003. The camcorder still work OK. My only complaint is the camcorder is capable of recording in HD only on the tape but not on the memory card! Why?

Not the best

Miles long "dome", Amazon
6 July 2007
  • Summary: At first I loved this mini HDV cam but, after it broke the first time it was the main button. Now the CCD is F-ed up. When I bought this unit I was offered the 5 year Mac cam warrinty. This is saving me the cost of a new one.

Capable of 720p and 24P

Gadgester "No Time, No Money", Amazon
14 March 2006
  • Summary: The JVC GRH-D1 was released two years ago as the world's first hi-def camcorder (at least the world's under-$5000 HD camcorder). It utilizes the new HDV format, developed by JVC and enhanced by Sony, JVC, Sharp and Canon. The GRH-D1 is by now the "granddaddy" of HDV camcorders but it's great for those aspiring to shoot HD video. It has a comfortable grip, great image quality, and loads of pro features. The iamge quality is definitely excellent.

Would be Good if it worked

Aleem Riaz Khan, Amazon

  • Summary: I bought this camcorder on September 28, 2003 when it was still fairly new on the market and more expensive than it is now. By July 2004 both the LCD screen and the viewfinder just went black. No image but I was still able to record audio. I reported it to JVC. They told me I had to send it in for repair, which I did. It seems that this was a common problem. They didn't ask too many questions. The warranty had already expired so I had to pay a couple hundred dollars.

Beware if you don't have firewire

Jose Rivera, Amazon
21 February 2005
  • Summary: I bought this camera from a private seller at a coffee shop in October of 2013 for $450. I thought I had a steal when in reality I had actually been robbed. This camera has great HD picture quality in widescreen format. Good luck extracting it to a computer though. Unless you have firewire on you pc or laptop, you have to get creative to transfer your video, Mini DV records on tapes, not internal memory or an sd card.

If you have an HDTV, you need this camcorder!!!!

Amazon
31 October 2003
  • Summary: This is the first camcorder I have ever used that looks good on an HDTV. No... Let me correct that. It looks great!!! Have you ever wondered why a normal camcorder looks so bad on an HDTV? It's because an HDTV is very high resolution. When you connect a traditional camcorder (even a Mini DV), the TV sees a much smaller, comparatively low resolution picture and must scale it (digitally enlarge it) to fit the screen.
