"Quality of still photos much better than video."

fishnlady, CNET
21 September 2008
  • Pros: Excellent still digital images
  • Cons: Focus of video is slow and any movement of the camera creates jumpy video. Camera must be on auto and perfectly still to get decent video.

Display issue

Eva Z. "Eva", Amazon
25 July 2008
  • Summary: This camera is great, only problem is, that almost immediately, two vertical lines appeared on the display. Another line appeared a few days after that. It makes no difference to the recording, but I am afraid that after a while I will not see what's on the display. I bought this for my dad and were able to give it to him after a few month so now I am wondering if I get any warranty help from JVC.

JVC Everio GZMG555 Camcorder

4d, Rate it all!
1 June 2008
  • Summary: I recently just got this camera and boy is it frusterating! Now don't get me wrong the video quality is just pure excellence compared to the last camera I used. Another pro is the night alive feature which allows you to turn on a light built in the camera if necessary. Now with the cons.

Image stabilization is nonexistant

daplaya9, B&H Photo
1 May 2008
  • Summary: Used this for High School soccer matches and my daughters college music recitals. I had this a total of approx. two weeks and video taped a recital and three or four soccer games. Right out of the shute, I had to buy a tripod to make viewable footage. It would make you seasick otherwise. While I liked the camera, you can record into the harddrive, and I had good lowlight results, these qualities couldn't overcome the vibration/gittery footage off of a tripod.
  • Pros: AV input recording, Comfortable to Operate, Durable, Great Features, Great Sound, Simple Controls
  • Cons: Blurry zoom past 10x, Must use tripod, No image stabilization, Poor Battery Life

Good Camcorder but Mac Users Beware....

Photo Geek, Amazon
9 July 2007
  • Summary: Bought this camcorder a few days ago and am now returning it, unfortunately. Enjoyed the usability and operation of the product - until we came to download to our Mac. As described on the box, it is straightforward to download files to a Mac, the problem is what you can do with them after that. The video files have an extension ending in '.mod' that iMovie doesn't recognize.
