MOD format is a pain

always hopeful, Amazon
28 April 2014
  • Summary: This is an expensive camcorder. But, it has a nice image sensor. The problem with this is the .mod format. Where did that come from? It takes decent footage. But the footage it takes requires a lot of hops to jump through. Not many editing packages can use this without converting first.

Good camera for out door activity.

  • Summary: Good product for outdoor activity, will put up with a lot of abuse and weather. Works well in low light, only down fall is that it only has 2 megapixles for still camera shots.

"Great Camcorder!!!"

madmag19, CNET
3 June 2010
  • Pros: It takes great movies, and great pictures with a SD card installed. Very easy to use, but takes a little to get used to the controls. The DVD burning process is a walk in the park; as is the transfer of video or still images.
  • Cons: The only thing I dont like but works well is the drop detection, it is designed to protect the hard drive is case it is dropped...so don't turn it off.

So far, pretty good...

penny pincher, Amazon

  • Summary: This review is for the JVC Everio GZ-MG255. My main use of this camera is for taping during church services. After just a couple uses, my impression of this camera is that the quality of video is better than I've experienced with other small HDD cameras. Most of my shooting is in low light shooting from a distance, and I've been pleased with the results. Battery is ridiculous - if fully charged, it will last approx. 50 minutes until dead.

Piece of Junk!!!

Joe Franks "Value oriented", Amazon
8 September 2009
  • Summary: Purchased this camcorder in July 2007. Have currently recorded on less than half of the hard drive, but with the unit less than 2 years old the CCD is defective. The camcorder will play back old scenes but will not record new ones. JVC informs me that the average cost of repair for this model is @ $275. Almost half the price of a new model. Now I have to decide, do I want to throw good money after bad... I have never been crazy about the software either.

JVC Everio GZMG255 Camcorder

Guy D, Rate it all!

  • Summary: The night time settings are lame. Recording with proper lighting is a must with this model. The 20 gb hd is plenty, but I can’t give this camcorder more than 3 stars.

Senative

Forrest Hood, Amazon

  • Summary: Good video is not that easy to capture with this camera. If one uses a tripod all the time then the clips will be acceptable. Once you try to capture holding the camera the slightest movement results in some distortion. I have had to edit most clips to cut out disorted parts. Lighting also is a problem at times resuling in poor color.

JVC Everio GZMG255 Camcorder

  • Summary: I have to admit that I acted a bit on impulse when I went ahead and bought this digital video recorder after doing a limited amount of research and having read some of the reviews here. Our previous video recorder never entirely satisfied me because it never let in enough light to make the picture look good. It would always be either too bright (from the light present or using the onboard-light) or too dark.
