Cutting edge technology, portability, and elegance are the defining characteristics of the JVC GZ-MC200. The GZ-MC200 is JVC’s first non-tape based recording camcorder – recording video to compact flash cards instead of MiniDV tapes. The JVC GZ-MC200 has a 1/3.6 inch CCD with 2.12 MP gross and includes some new innovations from JVC’s engineers. Its most impressive inclusion is a 4 GB Microdrive card to which it the camcorder records video. Read more

It's largely thanks to the massive success of the iPod that microdrives have become so affordable. It was about time some great DV camcorders turned up with hard disks tucked away in their bellies, so we were pleased to find the JVC MC-200 is such a small and elegant use of this technology. • Incredibly small size, Simple point-and-shoot functionality, Image stabilisation, Removable microdrive
    • Limited 60-minute record time on included 4GB microdrive, Low-light performance could be better

VC’s efforts to produce a multi-functional device that is all things to all users deserves recognition and praise. Each of the individual components perform perfectly adequately and the styling is second to none. That said, we can’t imagine the average photographer liking it, especially considering the price tag. Background: I have owned and operated this camera for about five years now. I have been around the country using this camera. I also made some great dvds of my college years. I am not a photographer. In fact, most of the time, I don't adjust any of the manual settings on cameras and camcorders. However, I am an electrical and computer engineer, so I am proficient in technology. Pros: First of all, this camcorder is EXTREMELY small-the main reason I bought it. Read more

    • Excellent video and sound. Fits in my pocket.
    • Battery life is less than an hour. Must use abysmal JVC software. Software is not available for macs.

The camera is good. JVC is a suprise!! The best thing about this cam, is undoubtedly, its size!! It is so small and compact, that it fits right into your pocket without any difficulty. It also allows me to take some really good still photos - i dont even need to carry my digicam with me everywhere - i just need to take my camcorder!! Its low light performance isnt too good, but then again, almost EVERY camcorder doesnt perform well under low light conditions. Read more

Very good camera ease of use is fantastic the body twists from the hand hold part. sound quality is ok but no the best focus is good but is very unstable zoomed in at a distant object As above like bigger camera's there is no strap to slip your hand in to hold the camera so after time your hand swets and gets tired. its not very cheap to buy. unless second hand. its the future for camera with the way it records on to a mini hard drive . • Small light easy to use
    • No strap to hand hold. some buttons feel cheap

Before we even get started, let’s just say that the JVC Everio GZ-MC200 has a lot to offer. While it may not be the best option for independent videographers who are looking to make their own films, for the novice who is in need of the basics it does not get much better than the GZ-MC200. Before you buy this model you should definitely compare it with the competition, but even then there is a good chance that this one will come out on top.

When it comes down to it, the biggest benefit of the GZ-MC200 may not have anything to do with the technical aspects of the model. Instead, it is the small compact design that many people are attracted to. This small design makes it easy for you to carry the GZ-MC200 with you while traveling, or simply in your pocket so that you never miss an important moment.

The GZ-MC200 captures digital video on a hard disk that is removable to make things convenient on the user. For a camcorder of such small proportions the video quality is amazingly good. You will not get the best in color and sharpness, but at the same time you will never have to give up too much as far as quality is concerned.

The only real downfall of the GZ-MC200 is the below average low light performance. While this can be somewhat of a pain in the neck, this model is not the only one suffering from this problem. Poor low light video quality is quite common among camcorders in this class.

Anybody who wants a compact, simple to use camcorder should consider what the JVC Everio GZ-MC200 has to offer. Although it is not perfect for every situation, if you are looking for a high quality capable performer this is the way to go.
