  • What's wrong with the HP v5061u? Why is it so inexpensive?

Why is the HP v5061u so inexpensive, compared to the other consumer grade digital camcorders on the market that have 1080p HD? Is there something that it doesn't have that the other camcorders in it's range have that would account for the smaller price tag, or is it just that it isn't a brand that is typically associated with video? Also, do stored like Best Buy, Futureshop, The Source, or even Wal-mart or Sears usually carry this product in stock or does it have to be purchased online?

Bought this camera at Walmart the other day on their boxing day sale, only $118 CAD. Thought the dual power and SD ports was cool, plus it was HD, how could I lose? Tried a set of AA batteries while waiting for the lithium to charge, killed them in under 15min. Then tried the zoom. It has a MAXIMUM of 2X zoom in video mode. Took it back to the store after that, seems like a nice unit other than that though

Because it doesn't have any optical zoom, only numerical zoom. So this cam purpose is mostly recreationnal, that's why it is

Calling the HP V5061u "inexpensive" is dignifying it way more than it deserves. I purchased it at Walmart a week ago and it's going back PDQ! I paid $169.00 CDN but that's not my complaint; it's a piece of trash even if it would cost me half of that. Over 2.5 hs of HD1080 recording time on an 8Gb card is nice! I imagine the dual power can be an advantage, BUT being able to use an external power source such as an AC adapter would have been REALLY nice. Enough! - My V5061u has NO internal memory. - The PLAY button on the touchscreen works, but the PLAY button on the camcorder does not work. Why? When I hooked it up to the TV, the touchscreen showed: "TV Standard" or "Earphone". So I touched "TV Standard" and the touchscreen went black. Well? What now? So I decided to try to play it on my PC. While the user manual more

Since it has no image stabilizer, I suppose the 2X optical zoom is HP's way to protect us from our shaky selves. The technology is cheap enough these days so there is NO VALID REASON for not including the image stabilizer or at least some internal memory. Got to look for a different one.
