Summary: excellent camera. I had one I bought new in 1999 and paid over $900.00 it final broke. I bought another one on ebay for$55.00 just so I could use my saved mini dvds. It was like brand new,my wife couldnt believe it. It takes awesome video and is simple to use. It is compact for our trips to disney, I am thrilled I was able to replace the one I had. It is so easy to use my kids use it all the time for soccer, gymnastics, school plays you cant save enough memories.
Summary: I love these little cameras. It's too bad that DVD-ram didn't become popular enough to still be made but they are worth it when you find them. Other formats are fully usable like DVD-r and stuff but the DVD-ram's are so conveniant and the data is supposed to last for upwards of 30 years. That's what I try to always use in these cameras because of in camera editing and the double-sided disks hold and hour of footage.
Summary: Overall its good product, but some thing could be improved. 1. Low light video recording seems to be jerky, looks like frame count was sacrificed for exposure times 2. Low light performance of still camera is inadequate, it's impossible to use autofocus feature. Even picture in viewfinder or on LCD screen is clear, photos is out of the focus. Probably same deal with long exposure times, camera becomes susceptible to tiny hand's tremors. 3.
Great product - better than Sony and more reliable too.

Summary: This camcorder is awesome. It is easy to use, has solid video and sound, and is from Hitachi - the firm that invented the DVD camcorder. Actually, consumer reports has been very favorable towards Hitachi camcorders in general. Basically, Hitachi has been doing this longer than anybody else, and so the end product is a bit better. They also don't nickel and dime you.
