Summary: ok i got this for use as a dash cam in my car. i like the app on the phone (android phone) and althought it has issues at times, all of which can be solved by restarting phone and/or camera. Camera seems to over heat with the usb charger cable attached or just on battery. I live in Rhode Island so its not like i live in the desert or on the sun.
Summary: Purchased a GoPro Hero3 White at the end of April 2013 and I can confirm that (1) you will likely spend at least an hour or two trying to update software (2) the update process seems to fail randomly, (3) even after updates there are still numerous problems. Definitely still *not* ready for prime time. I'd pass unless you have strong technical skills, plenty of time and lots of patience. I'd also recommend checking out the "known issues" list at [...
Summary: I chose this rating because of the company who provided this product: WE Internet Sales. My son knew how to work this camera and it did not work. When returned to the company they said it worked "properly." This camera would not charge or turn on. We ended up losing a 20% restocking fee and a $10 shipping concession. They said the camera was returned in working order - it was not and never worked correctly from the start. Very disappointing.
Summary: I really want to like the GoPro Hero3 because it has so much potential, but unfortunately like everyone is reporting, the firmware is incredibly buggy (even after updating to the latest firmware, released 15 Dec 2012). On the company's fb page they have a post from 15 Jan 2013 saying they believe all of the bugs have been fixed with this update, but I assure you that they have not been fixed.
Summary: While a great concept, this thing is a trainwreck. I purchased this 2 weeks ago for a week of snorkeling in on reefs in Mexico. I am writing this from the lobby of the resort. It locked up (froze) the first time I used it. Then it managed to take 3 photos and 5 videos on the beach. Three of the videos are great, two of them are purple and yellow and pixelated. Then the it froze again, and again, and again.
Summary: I'm sure that the camera itself is great, can't wait to use it. Spent a disproportional amount of time just getting the m/f out of the grossly over-engineered packaging. The on-line manual seems to assume a lot--goes to step 3-4 while skipping 1-2 if you get my drift. Maybe the intent is to challenge the user's intellect by forcing you to figure this out via multiple Google searches for specific steps, watching a buttload of Youtube vids and trying to read the tech...
Summary: The camera is horrible at best. I set it to 1080p hd and 30fps and shot a video, then hooked it up to my computer and the video paused every 5 seconds. Pretty stupid for paying how much i did.
