Despite the trend towards tapeless DV camcorders, Canon has released three new MiniDV models for 2008, including the entry level ZR900. It's hard to fault the Canon ZR900 when it comes to price: this MiniDV camcorder offers one of the least expensive ways to enter the world of digital video recording. While this is clearly a basic unit aimed at budget consumers, it offers a couple of features you wouldn't normally expect to find on an entry-level DV camcorder. Read more

Okay, so I have had this camera for about two years now. Actually, I have gone out and brought a new camera (HD!) because this one has stopped working. However there are many things which I should say about this camcorder. Pros: Sound quality is very good External Mic Jack DV Okay Picture Quality Adequate battery life Cons: Dv So this camera was my first DV camcorder that I have used. Beforehand, I have just been using a cheap digital camera. Read more

I have used this mini DV for about 4 years and it has brought nothing but great results. I have done several videos of my car, placing this camera mounted on the hood, out the window and did some inside shots while driving. Nothing is said if it had a anti shake mood, but this camera does not show hardly any. I do my own editing, so the tape (Mpeg) format works great and allows me to, to do all the magic on my PC. • Fast start up and point and shoot, all controls are within reach of one hand. Top loading for a quick change out of tapes. Front mic is good within 20-30 feet.
    • Standard battery is only good for about 30-45 min

This camera is great for the price. If you looking for a semi-good quality camera, then think about this one. You can choose from a number of features. You can manually focus and adjust exposure. The external mic is okay. I don't use it because I film short videos, instead I use an external mic. One of this biggest problems I have with the camera is that there is no way to listen to the incoming audio. Read more

Originally, I bought the product to serve as a way to play/rewind/fast forward miniDV tapes for editing purposes. That purpose is great. General recording is o.k. for the price. Picture on the monitor is often better than what is downloaded. Basic camera... gets the job done. If you are looking for a GREAT picture ... you will need to spend more. Read more

Small size makes a tripod a useful thing to have. This camera is a step down from the one I had, but the video quality is wonderful and the sound is actually better than the other camera I had. Though the other camera cost much more. Camera works great with a MAC and iMovie. The Firewire connection is the only way to go. Read more

Canon ZR900 MiniDV 4 I am forced to write the review because of totally uneducated review left by "E. Robles "VJ Pike". He apparently never went to the menu section of the camera. When i get any electronic item, the first thing I do, is to go to the Menu and play around with the setting. If he had ever visited the Menu section, let alone play around with it, he wouldn't have written an embarrassing and incorrect review. Read more
