I would not recommend this camera because of its unreliability.

Summary: Great litle camera, but not reliable, Our first purchase broke down and was repaired without charge from the factory. It broke down again, a completely different problem, this time not under warranty. So we bought a used camera on ebay which works fine so far. Out first camera had not seen a lot of use. I would not recommend this camera because of its unreliability.
If you insist on buying one, don't expect it to last.

Summary: Stay away from the ZR series camcorders. I had a ZR65mc that suddenly stopped ejecting. This one did the same. I see countless reports from others affirming the bad design. Also, the audio defaults to 12-bit 32K so you have to go into the menue every time to change it to something listenable (16-bit 48K). This particular one clearly still samples at 12-bit 32K even in the 16-bit 48K mode, though my ZR65 did not have that issue. AVOID!
Pros: Digital camera and camcorder in one package, features, size, and the Canon name all good.
Cons: It's been in the repair shop twice now. The firewire port did not work out of the box, and the tape loading mechanism quit working before it was a year old. Both video and still pictures are marginal quality - certainly not consistent with my other Cano
Summary: I purchased the ZR-70-MC after reading several reviews and studying several other camerass. Initially I was very pleased with the result-outdoors, that is. In sunlight the camera produces excellent picture with great color and crisp outlines. However, indoors the picture becomes grainy and very digital. After studying the manual and trying several different modes and manual adjustments, I was able to improve the picture somewhat, but not to a satisfactory level.
