Summary: This small and feature packed camera has one SMALL problem. It will NOT make itself available to the pc via the firewire cable!! Bought new firewire card, new cable, removed windows SP3 etc etc etc...NO success!!! Reviewed websites, researched forums etc...
Summary: If you just want to record your memories then this camcorder will get the job done. If you want to upload the video - well, forget about it. Depending on where you get it, the cord to be able to upload is $50.00 (on Cannon's site).
Summary: If you are looking for an entry level MiniDV camcorder, the Canon ZR500 offers excellent value for money. Pros 1. Very intuitive interface 2. High Optical Zoom 3. Use of joystick reduces number of buttons to just 3 Cons 1.
Summary: The look and feel of this camcorder is very good. Unfortunately my camcorder use is limited to low light indoor activities. For example, evening party, indoor school activities, kid drama and orchestra. This camcorder is not at all suitable for these activities.
Summary: This camera was bought to replace a JVC MiniDV that suffered from mysterious condensation errors that would reliably take the camera out of service for key events like my son's birthday and the holidays. The JVC also took a lot of dark or washed out videos unless the setting was in direct sunlight.
Summary: You simply can't beat its price-to-performance ratio. Who cares if it doesn't take digital stills? It does exactly what any other single-chip DV camera would do for a bargain price.
Pros: Very inexpensive. Good image quality, covers all the essentials of a DV camcorder, from recording to digital transfer. 16:9 is an added bonus, but I wouldn't count on it for widescreen footage that will hold up on an HDTV.
Cons: It's worth noting that this camera does not have the ability to convert analog sources into DV output (as many other cameras can), but given its extremely low price, I'd still give it five stars. The joystick menu system is also a little less convenient than actual buttons on the unit.
Pros: Very simple and straightforward to use, excellent picture quality, GREAT price, digital transfer via firewire no problem, battery life excellent so far. Really quite nice for the cash, despite the older media.
Cons: Integral microphone picks up some noise from the tape motor; would probably be cured by using an external microphone. Also some issues with aspect (image stretched longitudinally on computer and TV), despite switching from widescreen 16:9 to regular 4:3 ratio, although that could quite easily be ...
I don't experience any motor noise problem! One of the best cameras within this range.

Summary: I did some research before buying this camera. I think within this price range this camera is among the best. There were some reviews that complained about recording of motor noise and that was the biggest concern for me before making the purchase.
Pros: I am so impressed with this camcorder. I just got back form a trip out west and took this little guy along because it got good reviews and I wanted to take video of the trip. On the trip I took about 4 hours of video in 16:9. I was really afraid of what it would look like when I got back and how ...
