Summary: I was really excited about getting this camera but once received. I saw that this was not a new item with just a damaged ctn. It was a used item and it did not work. So I had to pay for the return that I did not get reimbursed for and it was misleading in their ad.
Summary: I've had several expensive Sony's and I use a Digital Camcorder on an Apple to create Video's and transfer old 8mm film. This camera is as good or not better than the sony's that tore up in a couple of years and cost $600-800 more......don't be fooled by the newer models, read and find out that this is as good as those costing a whole lot more....love it.
Summary: Bought the item as a gift for my wife. She will embark on a journey to Isreal in the coming weeks and it will be great to capture the beauty of the country via film and still photo's using this camera instead of conventional digital camera. Everything works great and it was a great buy compared to the cost in a store.
Summary: ZR400 is a good miniDV camera with many options. It's not overloaded with too many manual control options, but it has just enough feature tweak (such as shutter speed, aperture size tweak) and a variety of automated modes to satisfy those few who would like a bit more refinement on casual vacation videos. It does not have mic input or hotshoe for external lighting connections, so it is definitely for casual vacation video and good lighting shooting.
Summary: My intention when I was finally ready to purchase a camcorder was the Optura 85. I had picked it over the ZR 400 for the accessory shoe and flash. However, given that our vacation was a week away, the Optura would not have been shipped until well after we returned. We took the ZR 400 on our trip to Disney World and it performed very well. Outdoor video was great. Indoors it performed quite well.
