Summary: Wanted to give a more up to date review. All the others below are correct just many years ago. I recently bought this camera for just over $1,000. I had been watching it for some time. I wanted to get an HD but I couldn't really fine one I liked for a nice price. This camera, though still DV, has far more than any HD for the price. There are so many settings and things that can be done that I have yet to discover. The final product is amazing.
Summary: I just want to say THANKS Mike and crew at Electronics Monkee for the OUTSTANDING Customer Service and Quality Equipment they have to offer... I needed another camera by a certain date and Mike made it happen.... The XL2 Arrived packaged perfect to protect it as well as it looked like a brand new camera it was as clean as it was described to me... It functions Flawlessly as do my others.

Summary: This is my second one I really like it. I film a lot of car races with it. I have it mounted on a 12 foot jib crane and I sit in my lawn chair and push the remote buttons. My first one got hit by some mud from the track and had to send off to be fixed. It is nice to have a back up. I really like the picture quality it has real color but need to use good film. Sound is great and the function of the cam is easy to use.
Summary: In the movie, Showtime, the fearless reality TV cameraman (the same actor plays a scruffy writer on 30 Rock) carries a Canon XL2. That should tell you how old the design is. In the finale, the XL2's little brother, the Canon GL2, also plays a key part in the story. Canon did a wiz-bang job of product placement. A decade later, the SD-format XL2 is still a well-designed, and now quite affordable, workhorse.
the Canon XL2 (still an incredible professional video camera)

Summary: I love the Canon XL2... the 3 White Balance pre-set function and array of Manual options, as well as Automatic options make this camera one of the best in its class. The lenses available to the XL2 are second to none. Due to the recent craze over DSLR, the price on these XL2's has dropped incredibly low, but make no mistake about it, it's still the same BADASS! camera that it has always been (If I could afford it right now, I'd buy another one).
The XL2 is an affordable, easy-to-use SD camcorder with sollid quality.

Summary: I did not purchase a refurbished black/white camcorder but a 3-CCD full-color Canon XL2 unit. The black/white is a fine unit that captures black and white values in standard definition with great quality for an SD camcorder. The full-color unit is equally proficient. This is an easy-to-use device that gives you exactly what you expect - quality and convenience at an affordable price.
