See moreThe new Canon XL H1 HDV camcorder is a welcome addition to the industry. Consumers were disappointed in the past when Canon decided to stay out of this market niche. But of course, if they wanted to keep up with this competition they had to release a HDV camcorder that could hold its own. Enter the XL H1. This camera incorporates every HDV feature imaginable, and as a result it is a good choice for anybody searching for this type of model.
There are a couple of inherent problems with the XL H1. First off, it is far behind the competition as they were the last manufacturer to enter the game. JVC, Panasonic, and Sony all released HDV camcorders before Canon. Additionally, the XL H1 is by far the most expensive of all the models. Obviously, for consumers this is a drawback. The bottom line is that to some people who are very familiar with the industry, the XL H1 may be the best option despite the price. But to others, it may be nothing more than an odd design that is trying to compete with the big players.
Like Canon camcorders of the past, the XL H1 is sort of a cross between a handheld and a shoulder mounted model. This design appeals to some people, but others feel that it makes for a hard to handle package. It all comes down to your personal preference.
The most intriguing feature of the XL H1 is the way that it can record in HD. This is the way that the industry is moving, and Canon does a good job in offering this to the consumer. HD capabilities are made possible by several features such as 1/3 inch CCDs, 1.767 megapixels, and 16:9 capabilities.
Although the Canon XL H1 entered the game late and has an expensive sticker price, it will still fit in nicely with what many people are looking for.
