Not an 8+ as they ratee it

Chef Paul, Adorama
13 February 2013
 • Excerpt: I bought this from the used department as my Canon XF 305 broke, so I needed something as a secondary camera. The camera did look brand new, except for it was missing the screws which hold the microphone clip. The used department charges me for replacement parts. Made me laugh as I never got them in the first place.

Second, my battery came in at half life. No matter what I did, I could only get half a charge. The same battery new is $280.00.
 • Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Great Picture Quality

Not Drag and Drop clips like NORMAL cameras

M. Ortiz "Mad Max", Amazon
22 January 2013
 • Summary: Although its a great camera for low budget film makers like myself the issue of the files formatted in .MXF instead of AVI like other cameras SUCKS!!!, Unless you have conversion software to go from MXF to AVI,or your current video editing software has a conversion feature, youre pretty much screwed. You cant import or drag and drop your clips to your editing software without a conversion feature.

Beware Compact Flash Incompatibilities

The Va. Educator, B&H Photo
12 July 2012
 • Excerpt: Beware that only certain CF cards are compatible with this model. I bought top of the line Kingston 600X cards and the XF 100 stops recording on them after about 5 minutes. B&H makes not mention of this limit with the XF 100 in it's description. You'll have to go to Canon's website to see a list of CF card models that are compatible (although it still doesn't say other top notch brands are incompatible with the XF 100).

Dont zoom, it'll vignette!

Alberto, Canon
28 May 2011
 • Conclusion: I wanted what the venerable GL1 gave me 10 years ago; a compact, light body with great image quality and the option of full manual control. The XF100 gave me that, until i realized this camera's shortcomings. If you zoom in past the 1/2 mark with the ND filters enabled you get a horrible vignette (dark corners). I also realized that the miniscule view finder has great resolution but horrible color. It is also hard to use if you wear glasses.
 • Pros: good battery life, Easy Computer Connectivity, Accurate, Vivid Colors, Compact Design, excellent image quality, durable, Ergonomic/comfortable to hold, Easy TV Connectivity, great neck-strap
 • Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Poor sound/audio, vignettes, inaccurate color in view finder

Nice Camera for the $

Steve T, B&H Photo
23 March 2011
 • Excerpt: Use for cable tv production. Great Codec and resolution choices. It Does have external mic ports, in fact, both XLR and mini, which is awesome if you use both. The Picture can be a little noisy even when there is no gain added. Likely due to single chip.
 • Pros: Good Image Stabilization, Great Sound, Large Clear LCD, Performance Value
 • Cons: Limited Zoom, Single CMOS chip
