Summary: Before I purchased this camcorder I researched for about 4 months, comparing features and quality among all available consumer camcorders available. I've had this camcorder for over a year, in that time I've shot approximately 150 hours of video with it. The quality of video it produces is excellent. Low light quality is on par or higher then any camcorder you will find in the same price range.

Summary: @ Everyone complaining about how poor this camcorder fares in a low-light condition should take a look at this test I conducted with the Canon Vixia HF11. Keep in mind that the HF11 and the HG21 both have the same specifications except that the HG21 has a 120GB HD, (which I care little about cause the 16GB class 6 flash mem.
Summary: I am a young aspiring director, and am in the process of buying a lot of my own equipment for shooting videos to enter in film festivals. I have to tell you, what I've seen of the HG-21's sheer picture to price ratio has completely floored me. I've shot on many DV cameras that cost hundreds of dollars more than this one, but none of them can hold a candle to this camera's picture!
Summary: The camera is easy to use out of the box. Takes quality picture in most condition, even low light. The stills are comparable to a point and shot camera. The only negative is the editing software, its weak.
Summary: I haven't had the camcorder for too long. What I can say is that I am soo thankful I bought the larger capacity battery. The original lasts about 30min on the highest settings. The high capacity battery is almost 3 hrs. The stabilization really makes this camera worth every penny. I am still messing with some of the settings to get the best picture for me. Quality is really high, almost too high.
Summary: This camera has a great image quality but only support USB computer connections. Mac based systems require IEEE for direct connect and recording. Nonetheless I get great video quality from this camcorder. One feature that I really wanted was manual focus and manual exposure control, and with this camera you get both.
Summary: I love the camera and the video quality. But check the video format and see if it's compatible with your software and your other videos. Adobe Premiere, for example WAS not fit to edit this camera's videos (look for updated review below)!!! I am using Vegas editing software (you can buy it online). Ah, the camera is a bit bulky. Doesn't fit your pocket. You have to carry it around your neck.
