Summary: @ Everyone complaining about how poor this camcorder fares in a low-light condition should take a look at this test I conducted with the Canon Vixia HF11. Keep in mind that the HF11 and the HG21 both have the same specifications except that the HG21 has a 120GB HD, (which I care little about cause...
Summary: I am a young aspiring director, and am in the process of buying a lot of my own equipment for shooting videos to enter in film festivals. I have to tell you, what I've seen of the HG-21's sheer picture to price ratio has completely floored me.
Summary: The camera is easy to use out of the box. Takes quality picture in most condition, even low light. The stills are comparable to a point and shot camera. The only negative is the editing software, its weak.
Summary: Kudos to Canon for making such a feature packed camcorder, but shame on Canon for shipping it with a two-bit USB cable. Recommended accessories: (Newegg: bundle hint!) better, longer USB cable; extra battery; charger; HDMI to Mini HDMI cable or adapter.
Pros: Picture quality outstanding, low light better than most online reviews would indicate (use cinema mode + low shutter speed). Ability to use either HD or SDHC means you should never run out of storage space. Has a viewfinder - big plus in my book - most camcorders in this class don't.
Cons: Had major trouble getting Windows to recognize the camcorder. Tried Windows 7 64 bit, then Win 7 32 bit, then XP - driver installation failed every time (bundled software didn't help). Tried a different USB cable & it worked right away. Win 7 64 bit recognized it as a "USB Storage Device" & I was...
Pros: This is my second HD camcorder the other one was the Sony HDR-HC1 and it is the best camcorder I have ever owned. It also took a 4 foot drop to a hard floor picked up a ding but is still working great.
Cons: Included software is a joke. Unintuitive user interface. Terrible. To be fair, it will do what it says it will do which is allow you to backup your videos to your computer. I would have given it 5 eggs but the software needs improvement.
Summary: I haven't had the camcorder for too long. What I can say is that I am soo thankful I bought the larger capacity battery. The original lasts about 30min on the highest settings. The high capacity battery is almost 3 hrs. The stabilization really makes this camera worth every penny.
Summary: This camera has a great image quality but only support USB computer connections. Mac based systems require IEEE for direct connect and recording. Nonetheless I get great video quality from this camcorder.
