Canon is the better quality camera than most brands.
6 July 2013
Summary: I bought this product to upgrade from my current camera. I liked the picture quality the best, sound quality was just as good. It was compatible with my software and easy to use. Canon is the better quality camera than most brands.
Summary: Just a consumer note: I purchased this camera a few years ago when Amazon was the Seller and I did not pay the current advertised price. The video quality is excellent and the memory capacity is great but there are a few annoying aspects to this camera. For example: (1) If you want to take more than one photo using the timer, you have to go through a few menus to set the timer and then, after the first photo has been taken, the timer setting you just set is deleted.
Great video only when using external SD card, artifacs with internal hd.

Summary: I bought this camera to replace a broken Canon HF200. The HG20 goes for much lower than the HF200, has similar specs plus a 60 GB internal hd. It's a bit bulkier than the hf200, but I actually found that to be a plus as the HG20's shape allows me to hold it more easily. As mentioned below, the internal hd is not dependable for high bitrate recordings. The camera only works well for video recording only using an external SD card.
Summary: Great camera, astounding video quality. Play the HD with the cord into your TV and be amazed at the quality. This camera does everything I ask it to do. My only quibbles: the software is unusable, but if you're doing any editing, you're going to be going with iMovie, Premiere, Final Cut or something else anyway, and this imports into those programs flawlessly. The Canon proprietary hot shoe on the top is idiotic.
Summary: Good camera overall. Works really great in well lit rooms and outdoor. Superior quality. When the room is dim or doesn't have enough light the picture quality is poor. Over I would recommend this camera it is easy to use and I have it for almost 2 years without any issue. The software that comes with this camera is a piece of junk and the support is not great for the software either.
Summary: This camcorder offers what few HDD camcorders offer--a place to plug in an auxiliary microphone! This makes the Canon VIXIA HG20 AVCHD a perfect, versatile choice that provides the ability to record high quality sound to match the high definition picture.
Summary: I have used this camcorder for about 8 months now. As far as picture quality, in MXP or Cine mode, the quality is excellent. The audio recording is only average, and may benefit from attaching the optional mic. Audio levels can be adjusted on the fly for live music situations, which is a nice feature. The zoom is adequate and may be set to fixed or variable modes. It is quite small and portable.
"Copying video from camcorder to computer is painful"
7 November 2009
Pros: I got this cmaera about 25 days from today. I used for lots of recording different events. Overall the performance looks good
Cons: Copying video recordings from camcorder to computer is painful. Installing software CDs that comes with camcorder are of no use. I have to purchase additional 3rd party software worth $50 to get this video files from camcorder to computer.
