"Great Pic; 24 mbps is a dead end format, so far."
22 April 2009
Pros: There's a lot to love about this camera: great picture, easy to use, excellent features, very long recording time, very nice zoom for the price point. I've recorded on both the 60 gig HDD and a SDHC flash card and everything works great.
Cons: The highest resolution is a total dead end. The Pixela Image Mixer 3 is all but useless. To move 24 mbps (high res) to a DVD for archiving it must first convert to a lower resolution 18 mbps. This is a very slow process.
Summary: I must preface this with saying I am a professional videographer, so I am used to working with more high-level cameras. I was impressed with the sound pickup and the picture quality in well-lit areas. However, I did notice a fair amount of graininess in the nighttime indoor shots. The other downside is that the existing editing software I have (Avid Media Composer and Premiere CS3) does not natively edit this footage.
Pros: Comfortable to Operate, Great Sound, Simple Controls
Summary: I bought it a month ago and getting video with this. I am not fully satisfied with the resolution of the picture. But otherwise its ok. You have 12X zoom and 60GB hard drive. You dont have to be worry to remove previous movies. Battery service is ok but not excellent.
Summary: Recently got the HG20. Am fairly pleased with the perform of the camera, so all is good there. Unfortunately, I'm not so happy with the editing software. It's incredibly basic, and has a lot of issues.
Initially I was having some issues with this software using my laptop (which I discovered is a tad under spec with having only a Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2GHz), so I installed it on a friend's new computer which is over spec'd with a Quad CPU processor and more than enough...
