Wide Angle Capability Sucks - Have to stay way back 15 ft
Just like Patton, Amazon
5 January 2011
Summary: Have had this camera for about a year. Had to buy an aftermarket battery as the one it comes with doesn't last very long. Decent video quality and pics, but the Sony is better. #1 reason I would not recommend buying this cam however is due to the fact that the camera has very little wide angle capability. Its great for long distance shots with great telephoto, but you have to stand over 15 ft back from anyone your are videotaping in order to get them in the shot.
Summary: No camera should be this frustrating! This one cost me a lot more than it's worth. It takes great video and even the stills are good, BUT downloading the video is absurd! The software provided with the camera is garbage!! It literally takes longer to download a video than it took to shoot it! I downloaded the "fix" from the Canon website, and it did help some, but apparently their software hasn't caught up with Windows 7 yet.
Summary: I puchased my HG20 from Amazon in December of 2009. The camera has worked great for several vacations, thousands of pictures and tons of video. Unfortunately the display suddenly stopped working a week or two ago. We were showing some recent video to grandma and grandpa when the display on the camera went white. I researched the problem on the Internet and found a tech site reporting the same problem.
Cons: taking video off the camera is PAINFUL. The software is awful. I bought a software which converts .MTS files into more common video files...editing is painful I had to buy a software for that too. the .MTS conversion takes hourrssssssss
Pros: I like the picture quality but it remains on my camcorder
Cons: I am in the software biz. I have uploaded all the disks, updated the drivers, read forums on the official and unofficial websites and still can't get the computer to recognize the camcorder. I have a quadcore, a video card, etc.
Summary: While the images captured are excellent uploading video footage to your computer for editing is not simple. I have been trying for over 3 months to complete this task with no luck. What I've learned is that the technology of this particular camcorder is too advanced for most pc's. Buy it at your own risk. I'm ready to throw this one in the trash!
"AVOID this Camera due to the Poor Bundled Software."
2 April 2009
Pros: If you just want to watch the built-in monitor, or plug it into an AV Device such as an HD Television set, then it's a Nice Camera. For Editing on your Computer, forget it. The Software is HORRIBLE.
Cons: BAD SOFTWARE. No Online Manuals, User Guides, or Support for the Software. Canon says, "We cannot Help you with the Software" (!) What was Canon thinking when they bundled the Camera with this mess?
