Summary: I've had this camera for a couple of weeks, I've tried it indoors, at night, outdoors under bright sun. The image quality is superb. I was using it to shoot some scenes at an amusement part, and the videos are good, I was worried about the motion artifacts in AVCHD encoding, but it's not as bad as I...
Summary: Overall I've enjoyed this camera, but there are a couple of shortcomings:
1. AVDHD codec (.m2ts file extention)is not supported by the majority of popular players and editing software, including WMP and quicktime.
Summary: I was looking for a Camcorder that: a) Did both still images and video reasonably well b) Gave me the ability to walk into any event with only one device to carry (kids soccer games to parties to a 2 week vacation) c) Easy to use, with good picture quality d) Minimal hassles all the way from...
Summary: So far, I haven't had any major problems with this camera. I am new with HD camcorders. The video quality for this camcorder is quite excellent. Transferring video over to my computer works fast and well. I have not tried making DVDs using the program provided.
Cons: It records in .m2ts format and you can't upload the movies on web sites like Google video or youtube because they require file extension like wmp, avi or other basic formats to be able to upload. I called the technical support but they couldn't help. You need to buy a converter software which cos...
Summary: This is the 6th Canon camera I have bought these last 8 years, and the camera meets my expectations of performance. Its high quality definition is excellent, and is without exception much better than other similar camcorders around.
Summary: I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of camera settings so I don't tweak things on the camera unless I have to. I didn't feel the need to tweak anything on this camera. You turn it on, what for the hard drive for a few seconds, point, and shoot. It takes great video.
Pros: high definition, compact, ergonomic, decent battery life, good picture, external microphone connection (3mm), good zoom, easy to use
Cons: Built-in mic picks up everything the operator says. The video format is only supported through a hack in Linux and is very slow to convert. Not only are still pictures not very good quality (as is expected from a video camera) but I had trouble capturing any that weren't blurry.
Summary: Format is still very new. I tried to upload a video on YT but didn't work. I havent used the software with it so I don't know what it does but you will have to convert it I believe. It feels solid. Zoom switch is different but I love it. I like it being a toggle and not a knob or something.
Pros: Compact but impressive. I thought the size would compromise the quality but it is superb. This is my first HDD and first HD camcorder. Daytime quality is flawless. Some artifacts but barely. Low light is pretty good. I record house fires and I had one the other night and it was flawless. Nighttim...
Cons: No wind filter. Only on breezy or windy days it is bad but still decent. Menu is kinda annoying and the dial is ok. Takes some time to get used to but it is fine once learned. Battery life is pretty bad so get another battery. I haven't gotten one yet. The viewfinder is pointless...doesn't move u...

Summary: Great compact camcorder, two possible formats- High def and reg def. great image on both. I have shot with highend prosumer cameras and I have to say that this is comparable, the only one on the market with a mic jack to attach extrenal mic.
