Summary: Bought to replace a Sony Digital 8 for compatibility reasons. Although it takes great video, easy to use, it would have been 5 stars if it had a light and night vision. Paid the same for the Sony several years ago and it was equipped with the light and night vision. Unable to find one for less than $500 with those features. However, it is a great little unit and recommended for nearly any kind of shoots.
Summary: Soccer dad needs to video kids games. Perfect - light, small, good picture quality, easy to use. For about $350, can't complain. Buy a couple of extra memory cards and an extra battery to last all day.

Summary: Length:: 6:05 Mins Attached Video is "How to Connect Your Vixia to the WiFi Remote Control." Please note: SOME of the video included here was shot with the Vixia HF R40,(some with an iPhone) but the video quality is not a result of the camcorder! Amazon requires that the file size is 100MB max and then it gets compressed upon upload! So don't judge the camera on the quality of the clip you see here!
Start with this and move up as your skills improve.

Summary: Excellent beginners video editing camera. Good for home video use. Definitely going to need additional batteries but if you done your research that is a known issue. Regardless definitely worth the money you pay for it.
Summary: It's a good camcorder for a beginner, but its controls are too complex to use and maneuver around. It can easily be simplified, so that controlling it would not interfere with shooting a scene at the same time.
Good value for price. Needs a bit more manual control for those who are a bit more tech savvy.

Summary: Camera works well as a whole. The WiFi link is easy once it is set up. Some issues with too much distance and a fair bit of buffering when transferring images to the iPad at 3 seconds delay. Camera function great in normal light. When things get dark, the image becomes grainy. Settings are available at 1080p at 3 levels. Only one other setting available and that is at 720p. Camera is excellent at its price though.
Summary: I teach broadcast journalism at a university, but I also teach non-broadcast students the basics of good video to be used on the web and for ad/pr uses. What a great camera for learning and it produces outstanding video. Well, most of the time. Give this camera daylight and the visuals are stunning. Shooting inside without natural light and the images are generally grainy and there is a significant loss of face detail.
Summary: This is a great little camcorder, it's very small and light. it works well for filming indoors. I do have a problem with the streaming via wifi to my iPad 4. The delay is so much, as to make this feature unusable. it plays a bit, stops (buffering), then skips a bit, then plays a bit more. Has anyone successfully used this feature?
Summary: I have tried for a few years to use various other entry level camcorders with mac computers and have always been so frustrated with the need to transcode everything I record. As far as I can tell, the popular AVCHD video format just doesn't play well with mac software. (Not sure how it does on Windows since I've never tried it.
