Summary: Actually, not a bad camcorder, particularly for the price. Image quality excellent, both photo and video. Others' remarks about difficulty of using touchscreen controls is, in my opinion, overblown. If you want manual controls, buy something different. What I really miss is a viewfinder, especially in bright sunlight. But this camcorder, like so many others in an affordable price range, doesn't have one.
Summary: Didn't give it a 5 because we're still getting used to using it, loading the program onto our computer took longer than advertised. Like the size, controls are easy once you get used to them. Great picture!
Summary: This inexpensive video camera ($249 when I bought it) has a number of options for recording. For one party I used the AVCHD setting at 17 Mbps setting and I got two hours of continuous video on a 16 GB card. I had the camera plugged in as the batteries I had would certainly not last that long. Unfortunately the MP4 format only records 30 minutes at a time. The camera does come with 8Gb internal memory which is nice if your SD card is full.
Summary: I reviewed a lot about this product before decide buying HF-R300 few moths ago. I'm so surprised AMAZON hasn't changed the HF-R30 "dual" SDXC card slot comment. It's important that AMAZON modifies the description because HF-R30 has just 1 sdxc slot !!! just see the pictures!!! If you don't mind this issue and the spare battery you'll need, it's a good camera.
Summary: I just got an Canon HF R30 to replace my 13 year old DV camera. Grate camera except: comes with a small battery: the viewfinder is hard to see in the sun! If it wasn't for that I would have given 5 stars. Other than that I'm very satisfied with the camera. DV cameras have sure improved in the last 13 years! The optics is very good for the price range of the camera. Image stabilization is very good. Now we'll see how durable it is.
