The external inputs are faulty & the battery life is horrible. Skip it!
3 July 2013
Summary: I bought the vixiar30 refurbished from to different sellers & both had the same problems. They had faulty inputs for both mic & earphones along with a very very short battery life panning 5-15minute only. The camera touch screen was a nice feature as well as the wifi capabilities. However, if you can't use an external mic or earphones you are out of luck.
Summary: I purchased this camera to replace my Sony Digital 8 cameras. Its probably is a good camera for some, but don't purchase this if your a semi-pro or pro. I have a big collection of videos on YouTube, and decide to go HD. This camera has no view finder. So everything has to be viewed in the small touch screen. With any photography, best results is when the sun is to your back, its extremely hard to see any image on the screen, no mater what you do.
Video quality good, exporting/software not so good
6 April 2013
Summary: The video quality is good, but the sofware provided with the camera is a friggin' nightmare. Manuals have references to other manuals, there are 3 different pieces of software to install. I just want to get the video files out of the camcorder. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid $100-200 more for something with a more usable exporting/editing software. I wish Apple made a camcorder.
Summary: I've had this camera for about 3 months now. First off, yes the battery life is horrible, but after doing about 5 minutes of research before buying it, I knew what I was getting myself into. Even with the added expense of a battery, it's a good camera for the price. I love using it and the quality is pretty good (very good for out-door videos). If the only problem with the camera was its included battery, I would probably give it 4 stars.
Summary: 1- The way they have it displayed and advertised you would think that you can upload directly to youtube as all new smartphones, but it doesn't. The YouTube logo only means that the video is YouTube ready which is nothing and very miss leading, and I would have not bought this camera if I knew about this. 2- sencodly now that I read about the battery I am even more furstrated that I bought this model before checking the reviews.
Summary: Canon has engaged in what I feel to be "questionable" tactics at best with the sale of this camcorder. Unlike, Sony, the battery life is NOT listed on the box...and with good reason, the battery is horrible! I bought this camera three weeks ago knowing that in the past I had been content with a few Canon products and that some of the reviews I read were decent. Needless to say, I did not read any reviews about the horrible battery before I went shopping!
Summary: I bought this and loved the quality of the videos I took. Crisp, clean, good image stabilization, smooth movements, etc., especially considering the cost. But after just a couple of days of experimenting with it and using it at a client shoot, I realized pretty quickly what a worthless piece of equipment this is even for the average consumer, video quality notwithstanding.
Summary: The camera comes with a ridiculous amount of software. For example, I can draw pictures on the screen with the included stylus. It's nifty, but has no real use. The battery only lasts about 30 minutes and the microphone is horrible! It creates a loud white noise that compromises the sound quality.
Summary: This is one of the most frustrating, disappointing pieces of electronics I've ever owned. My husband bought this for me as a gift and we immediately took it with us on a weekend outing. The camera makes decent videos--not extraordinarily great but certainly good quality. Unfortunately the battery that comes with it is so unbelievably bad that it's almost useless.
