Summary: This saves files in an unusable format for Macs. You have to get an app to convert files just so you can use your Mac to edit the movies. Keep looking unless you are a PC (in which case you may need more help than just buying a video camera).
Summary: I don't really have any complaints about the camera itself. The video quality is fine and for the novice videographer that I am it did the job. My complaint is this: I have misplaced the software that it came with to load the files and unfortunately, there is no other software out there that is able to get the files from the camera to the computer for any editing whatsoever. I don't even know what the file type .cdi is...
Summary: Well I haven't had the camera very long, but it's already packed up and ready to go back. I have been shopping for a replacement for my JVC GR-D72U for a while now and had narrowed my list down to three. This one wasn't even on the short list. So why did I buy it? Well I got such a good deal on it I figured I would give it a shot. When I unpacked it I was very impressed with the camcorder itself. It was very attractive and had a very nice high-quality feel to it.
Summary: I was planning to buy this camcorder as a gift for a friend. Then I did my homework. I browsed owner-posted comments in camcorder forums. I borrowed a friend's R10 and tried it out for the day. I went to a camcorder outlet store and spent several hours trying out competitors to this camcorder. I compared the R10 spec's against its competitors. I spent way more time researching this than you'll ever want to. I concluded nobody should buy this camcorder.
Summary: Small and functional with excellent video results. Two problems: when recording the microphone is under the starp and thus covered by one's hand--hence hardly any sound is recorded; and the software that comes with it to transfer and edit video clips onto the computer is highly confusing and dysfunctional, making it almost impossible to record on DVD and to share. The camcorder arrived with a mal-functioning lens cover!
Decent camera, not really 1080p, Much better otions for the money
Surgery100 "ADJ", Amazon
19 June 2010
Summary: I bought this camera looking for a relatively inexpensive HD video camera which was easy to use. Having had a Canon video camera before I thought this was a good choice. Positives: 1) lightweight 2) simple controls 3) good microphone sensitivity Negatives: 1) Video quality is poor in dim/indoor light, very grainy and occasionally it wouldn't focus correctly in dim light conditions 2) Turns out video is NOT 1080.
Summary: All the reviews I read about this camera start with "crisp video", but I can't find any setting that puts crisp video on my screen. Perhaps that means going from the camera to an HDTV, but I would think I could get better than SD quality video on my computer. Also there's no remote, which is my fault for not noticing when I bought it. What I am most disappointed in is the AVCHD. That's not specific to this camera, but this camera is my first experience with it.
"HF R10 hard drive noise is deal breaker for picky users"
2 April 2010
Pros: Excellent picture quality. Tiny but highly functional joystick makes changing settings a breeze.
Cons: Recorded sound of the camera's hard drive can be heard in quiet scenes. Playback and editing of HD video is very jerky on anything less that a PC with 4gb processor. Small size takes some getting used to for large handed people.
