Summary: This saves files in an unusable format for Macs. You have to get an app to convert files just so you can use your Mac to edit the movies. Keep looking unless you are a PC (in which case you may need more help than just buying a video camera).
Summary: I received this as a birthday gift in preparation for our new baby. After one month, all of the footage we have has a background ticking noise. In low light (like indoors at night) the picture is grainy. Included software only writes DVDs or uploads to Youtube.
Summary: This camera is very convenient for shooting video. HOWEVER . . . if you decide that you actually want to export the video to disc to share with someone, forget it. The software that comes with it is something less than intuitive and the manuals must have been written by Microsoft because they give...
Summary: Bought this as we were having our first child and it does very well. We don't seem to record more than 5mins at a time oddly enough but it gets the video in HD. Did have to track down which of our cats was causing problems with stuff on the counter and it recorded 10hrs or so (on AC).
Pros: Quick variable zoom, many functions. Can record around 10hrs straight (with extra SD card). Tiny!!
Cons: Has an IR filter which hinders low-light recording (barely picks up IR, even bright IR in the dark). Menus can be a hassle to navigate to change a setting or reach a feature. Pictures/stills are so-so quality due to smaller MP of the sensor.
Summary: Indeed the stock, supplied battery's life isn't a world beater, but it's not horrible. You can pick up extra batteries very inexpensively and with greater capacity. I picked up 2 extras along with a stand alone charger (otherwise you have to charge the battery in the camcorder) all for under $40.
Pros: This camcorder has a good zoom, good color accuracy (though this suffers under low-light conditions; typical of most camcorders until you reach the big bucks range), sharp picture and bright display. It has enough special effects to keep the adventurous happy while not overwhelming a novice. It a...
Cons: In my personal use, I can only find one thing I wish it had, but I'm not going to knock it for lacking. It doesn't have a neck strap, nor is it made for one; though with a little imagination, one can be made.
Pros: Decent camcorder. HD, compact and easy to carry around. Features on it are ok but navigation can get confusing at times.
Cons: I wish I would have spent a little more for a better camcorder. -Battery life on this thing is HORRIBLE! -No night vision -makes a shuddering noise when zooming in and out or when the camera is moving. Spend another hundred or two and get a better camcorder.
Cons: It makes a VERY annoying sound inside that is picked from the microphone when recording. I called CANON, they said it was the dynamic stabilizer and if I turned it off the sound would stop, Well that didn't work because I think it's the lens that does all the focusing. The software that came with...
Summary: Use vimeo to upload videos, it gets converted and posted on their sites. Not to be a spokesperson or anything, works the best for me.
Pros: Bought this for my wife for xmas. Takes amazing video for the price. Even got a free 1.5TB external out of it with a combo. Lightweight and easy to use. Like that it uses SD cards, got a 16GB card for dirt cheap. Takes great videos of my daughter, battery life is pretty decent
Cons: Stupid file format. Isn't supported by mac natively, have to import the video in imovie, which is garbage. VLC will play the video natively, works great in windows 7. Snapshot mode is pretty much useless.
