Get a quality SD card.

MiraculousMouse, Amazon
11 July 2013
  • Summary: Filming an indie movie with this camera, I've found it to be a gem of a camera. I'd recommend getting a top quality SD card. I bought a pro-grade one for around 130 dollars and it records at higher speeds, so you don't get jitter on motion shots so much. If you are just using the camera for on holiday etc. Don't worry, save your money and just use a medium quality SD card. I found that the zoom works better on automatic mode rather than manual mode.

Great camera for the money.

sasquatch150, Ebay
7 May 2012
  • Summary: I wanted an affordable camcorder that shoots HD, records to SD card, makes it easy to put videos online and is small/lightweight. I got almost all of that in the HF M400. The camera is incredibly compact and light while still delivering eye-popping picture quality. There's no internal memory, but there are two SD card slots, and since you can usually find a good price on SD cards online, this actually helps save money (I got this camera used and it came with a 32 GB...

great so far

  • Summary: I bought this nominally used, and it is in perfect condition, all packaging still in the box, under warranty and I am happy with the savings. The paper manual is dreadful, and I am struggling with it interfacing with my PC laptop (i'm not very tech savvy). But the rest of it is excellent.

  • Summary: We have only had this for about two days, but what a picture. So far easy to use. Still pictures are great and the low light performance is very good. Great value.

Mostly Impressed

DigitalMagic, Amazon
19 October 2011
  • Summary: First off, I am a professional photographer, not a videographer, so my review is not in the technical nature per se' but more from a users POV and quality to my eye. I purchased the HF M400 as a adjunct to my photography. I read other reviews about poor battery life and the lousy touch screen. Yes; the touch screen is not overwhelmingly responsive yet it causes me no major hassle.

  • Summary: Very good, I'd buy another if I didn't already have one, have to hold your hand steady though, otherwise there's camera shake.

Canon M41 Awesome HD Video (Prior Canon HV20 Owner)

C. Williams, Amazon
15 April 2011
  • Summary: I have had the Canon HV20 HD camcorder and other MiniDV based camcorders before that. I wanted to finally make the jump to a non-tape based camcorder, and this new sensor with reported better low light capabilities seemed to fit. So I bought the Canon M41 (all three M4XXX models have this new sensor), and wow am I impressed with my first footage.

Great upgrade for a beginner/amateur

lnferno, Amazon
6 April 2011
  • Summary: I had a JVC digital tape camcorder that just wasn't cutting it anymore. Granted, it was about 5-6 years old, before a lot of this new technology was available at reasonable price points. I'll preface this review by stating that I am probably just a tad above the average beginner level in terms of camcorder use. The auto mode is great.
