Summary: Seems like a great camera with a lot of options. I say "seems" because I've had it less than a day. I like the layout of the buttons and the ease of switching between Manual and Auto modes. I have a HF M500 and these functions are done through the touch screen where the G20 has switches for that and also for Auto-focus and Manual focus. I shot some test video around the house and the pictures (video) is very good.
Excerpt: We use three of these cameras to record/stream live artist performances via YouTube. The picture quality is very acceptable, but the biggest downfall is that the sensor is not a progressive scan sensor and it is pretty conviluted as to how to make the picture quality less interlaced. Canon advertises that the recording may be done in 24p and 30p but that does not necessarily mean that the HDMI signal out is 24 or 30p.
Pros: Good Image Stabilization, Great Picture Quality, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Value for money, Zoom range/performance
Summary: Excellent portable camera!. I bought it in a need for covering an event. And worked great. Awesome HD picture, I used to de broadcast with no problem at all. Light and comfortable. Nice 32GB of internal memory and the total salvation is that it does have a Mic entrance. Great deal.
