Summary: I've owned this camera for over a year and am very disappointed with it. I use a 16 GB class 6 SDHC card and even when the camera is on a tripod and taping a stationery area, the video is very jerky. I think it's the image stabilization that's causing the problem, but not sure. The video twitches up and down at a regular rate making it unwatchable. When I move the video camera, following a moving subject I'm recording, the video is very pixelated and blocky.
Summary: My 18 month experience with this camcorder it that whilst it gave generally great video (the optical stabilization was not the greatest), the camera started to develop zoom creep by itself (fantom zoom). I don't even use it much. This will cost >$100 to fix now and it seems that there are many customers with the same issue on the camera - perhaps a design flaw or a problem with a specific component that fails. So for this particular camcorder.
Summary: We bought this camcorder in 2/09, and have used it a total of 9 days/year since then. It developed a low-grade hum during the warranty period, which we thought we'd resolved with help from tech support. (Tech support was helpful, but nearly impossible to locate.) The next time we pulled out the camera, it kept shutting itself off. Investigation pointed to the A/C power jack as the culprit.
Summary: I bought Canon HF100 5 months ago and was surprised to find that the video quality (even when recorded at the highest resolution) when played back on my HDTV (via HDMI) was very ordinary. I mean it is no better than the video quality of my five year old Sony TRV22E. Not sure what the rave reviews are all about.
Summary: I bought this camera to capture video clips to be used in online learning programs. My prior experience with a camcorder was in Hi8 format or with my Kodak digital camera that also takes video (VERY easy to use and publish)! This camera takes beautiful video, but the bundled software from PIXELA is the WORST software I have EVER encountered in my LIFE!!! It is bad enough to make me steer clear of any product that uses PIXELA software ever again.
Summary: I haven't been able to use this camcorder yet because I've been on the phone most of the time with Pixela trying to make the software work. Why didn't Canon use an open format to use with the camera? So far- one star until I get the thing going.
