I have made up my mind, i am moving away from Canon
Animon Jose "Ani", Amazon
31 March 2012
Summary: Canon HF-10 was recommended by lot of people in this site, that plus the canon brand was good enough for me when took the plunge about 3 years back. I had issues with this right from the beginning, but it was mostly because of the lack of AVCHD support and the substandard software canon ship with this product. for about an year, i could not play it on my otherwise decent computer. so i finally had to purchase a new computer so i could play the MTS files.
Broken zoom switch!!!!!!! Very common problem, no help from Canon
14 November 2011
Summary: I bought this camera new less than two years ago. worked great for about a year. Now the zoom switch is broken and it cannot hold a zoom position -- very annoying problem. I've read about this online, and it turns out that it is a problem that many, many, many people have had. Apparently Canon offers to fix it for ~$250, a steep price considering that this is a design flaw. I emailed Canon customer service, no response.
Summary: Saving video files to your computer is joke with this camera. Enough said ... buy something else, it's a nightmare. File format not supported by a lot of video editing software and can't download footage from camera ...
Cons: After just over a hundred videos, the HF10 stopped transferring to the computer. Archiving also failed. Camera was returned to Canon, which deemed it defective, and a replacement was authorized. The replacement failed right out of the box.
Summary: I placed an order for this camera several days ago. My friends and I are making some fun videos for you tube and wanted another camera. Now after I ordered this I assumed I was all set. But wait whats this? The camera I ordered for $830 was canceled and now costs $999.99??? Thats pretty lame is you ask me. I will never buy from this company again. I do not blame amazon. I blame greedy sellers.
Summary: Previously I had the Panasonic HDC-SD5PP which I was very pleased with - but it was stolen. So I bought the canon VIXIA HF-10 because of the 16GB flash drive. I should have thought more about how it felt than the amount of recording time. When you put your palm through the strap, the camera tilts to the left more than 45 degrees. Hard on your wrist. The MODE dial, it's awkward to move with one hand with the camera tilting.
