Amazing camera...and some love for the software

Anthony R. Cianci, Amazon
10 October 2009
  • Summary: I have had this camera for almost a year now and love it. I can echo all of the other great things said about his unit by others, but the bottom line is that it takes incredible hi-def video, it's easy to use, and it's small enough to fit in a closed hand.

Canon Vixia HF10 camcorder

Grysk, ReviewStream
9 September 2009
  • Excerpt: The Canon Vixia HF10 combines a crystal clear hi-definition picture with many useful and dynamic features. The battery charging unit is built into the camera. It is also able to take 10 megapixel photos. The audio system in the camcorder is INCREDIBLE, though not quite professional. …

Excellent HD camcorder...I hope you have a good computer...

John P., Amazon
24 March 2009
  • Summary: Like others here, I was also in the market for an HD camcorder to take advantage of my HDTV, and because I didn't want to spend $300 for a standard-def camcorder now, only to have to upgrade a year or two later...so I took the plunge.

great little video camera

CT D., Newegg
13 March 2009
  • Summary: Believe what everyone else has said about the battery. It dies pretty quick. I'll have a backup battery before going on vacation this summer. Study the manual. there's a ton of stuff to learn to get all the benefits this camera offers. Didn't even try to download on an old pc based tower.
  • Pros: Small, compact, great color
  • Cons: battery life

Excellent product

anton m., Newegg
22 February 2009
  • Summary: If i had a choice to buy it again or to recommend it to a friend, i would so. This is a great camera for the $$$. The cons are easily to overcome with an additional purchase of a battery and digital camera. My only regret is that i bought it months ago and not today (well for obvious price drop).
  • Pros: This camera shoots at awesome quality video. Slim design and light weight makes it perfect for traveling to just grabbing it for any trips. Was really amazed that during low light a little or no graining was present (this is a weak point of MANY camcorders these days). Provided software helps eas...
  • Cons: 1) Video files are somewhat complex to edit on PC at this point (Premier suite doesn't support these files as of today) 2) Quality of still pictures is somewhat poor, a lot of noise and just about even worse than a cell phone ones. 3) The battery life (well also bought an additional one, so not r...

Nice Camcorder

Anonymous, Newegg
2 February 2009
  • Summary: Nice camera, good image quality, small size, and expandable storage.
  • Pros: Nice size. Clear pictures (even on lower quality settings). Easy operation. Scene settings seem to work well, at least from a white balance point of view (Snow setting makes snow white instead of blue). Expandable storage. External storage can be used as a back up of the internal storage via the ...
  • Cons: Low light conditions produce significant noise. Large external storage causes longer camera boot-up times. Can only charge the battery in the camera (unless you buy external charger). Have to plug the camera in to use USB.

Surprisingly high quality

tylerl, Amazon
16 December 2008
  • Summary: I didn't expect to be able to buy a top-notch video camera for under $650 this year, but this camera has everything I want. I was originally going to stick with Panasonic, JVC, or Sony because they are well-respected names in video, but the Amazon reviews swayed me toward Canon.

Love it, with one caveat

David W., Newegg
8 December 2008
  • Summary: There are many complaints about how the high-capacity battery sticks out from the back of the camera. While it does stick out about 1/2-3/4", I actually find that to be a comfortable place to rest my thumb when holding the camera.
  • Pros: Great video quality. Camera is very compact thanks to tapeless design. I didn't think the interface was too complicated. The 16GB of built-in memory will get you about 130 minutes of video at the highest quality setting, so I may never need to add an SD card. Based on several comments, I also opt...
  • Cons: Editing AVCHD files takes a lot of computer horsepower. A LOT. I have a dual-core with 4GB of RAM on 64-bit XP and just the playback framerate in Premiere Elements 7 is about 2 fps. Users with more powerful computers using Premiere CS4 have the same problems. The consensus seems to be that you wi...

Canon HF10

Anthony R., Newegg
5 December 2008
  • Pros: I couldn't believe how small this camcorder was when I received it. Fairly easy to use, buttons and dials well placed, LCD menu somewhat convoluted.
  • Cons: More difficult than I expected to find decent editing software, which is also fairly expensive. When considering a program, absolutely take advantage of a trial period. Will probably go with Premiere Elements of Cyberlink PowerDirector?
