Summary: What is there to say? Canon lens, and image processing. I've had this for more than 2 years now and it's been very reliable. At the top bit rate, the images are clear, sharp. Granted, it's a little grainy in low light, but that's the tradeoff with digital. Lots of options to fine-tune your video with pro controls--quite surprising in such an affordable consumer product. I shoot with this often and it has never let me down.
Quite good - white balance can be a bit dodgy - night photos a struggle

Summary: Fantastic camera/video camera. Nothing will replace a great SLR, but for a dual purpose camera, this is fantastic. The video quality is great, the photos are very nice as well. My only issue is that night photos are pretty tough. Taking photos in dark settings is very difficult in general, I get that, but this camera struggles a bit. Always too dark or with a crazy bright flash. Some user error, I am sure, but I know this is a common complaint for this camera.
Have been impressed as a Camcorder, but mislead about SD cards

Summary: Camera has worked great since we bought it. Picture and sound are solid. Only complaint is I should have done more research. I bought this thinking I would be able to take the SD card out and put it in a computer/MAC to work with the video files. Not the case, requires the USB cable, and still not working well for me. It is nice/flexible to have SD cards to add new memory, but might as well be tapes/internal SSD/etc. vs. SD.
Summary: I bought this as an upgrade to my HF S100. I was sold on the native 24FPS. I had no idea the quality would actually be this great! Admittedly, the standard battery is not sufficient for any sort of prolonged shoot, but I got my HF S200 off Ebay with a Canon BP827 long life battery included. Overall, the improvements on this model make it an ideal upgrade.
