Summary: This is a solid performing camera. Takes up to a 32gb SDHC card. Allows manual control of many features which is very nice. Picture quality is quite good. Battery life with the BP-819 battery is about 3 hours.
Summary: I bought this a few years back and have used it for both video and pictures. I use the HDMI cable when playing back on my Plasma and the picture is amazing! This little camcorder is great for both videos and camera snap shots.
Summary: I am a camcorder amateur, so forgive my inability to describe with certainty and exact terminology what I am writing about. I have certainly kept the reality that I am new to this type of device in my mind as I A) worked with the camera, and B) now write this review.
Summary: I do wish they had a manual focus on the viewing screen so those of us who need glasses up close could adjust the view so we didn't need those glasses. Just a pain when you're looking distances and then at the viewing screen, then far aways again, and back and forth.
Pros: Absolutely cannnot beat what you get for the price, plus Canon is just hands-down one of the best camera companies in the world. I love the features on this. Clear, crisp viewing window. I like the fact that you can attach an external light on top of the camera.
Cons: I wish they had done a better job on their low-light technology. I've seen better low lux cameras out there, so if you are looking to film in the dark much without the use of its onboard light or an accessory light mounted on it's shoe, then look for other cameras.
Summary: Once you actually have the footage on your hard drive, it's smooth sailing. The picture quality is really wonderful and the files are compatible with many NLEs (.mts files) right off the bat.
Pros: The HF S100 is powerful camera that has left my Elura 100 in the dust. The weight of the camera seems to be average, it's certainly not overly heavy, but its weight is enough that jitter is minimal. When the camera is powered on with an SDHC card loaded, you're about 6 seconds away from being abl...
Cons: When it comes to audio, you'll find the usual problems; with consumer camcorders, the built-in mic picks up too much noise and does so at a less than awesome quality. I don't expect anything more, and it's better to capture too much than not enough when it comes to built-in mics, but just don't e...
Summary: The camcorder is great. It fits easily into the palm of my (large) hand, the controls are laid out intuitively, and it's easy to figure out how to start using it - without even reading the manual (I'll do that later).
Summary: Ok, I needn't repeat the accolades already laid on the VIXIA HF S100. I agree with most of them. I especially appreciate the still camera's high resolution. I think Canon has missed a few things, however. I would like a way to add a stronger flash for stills. There is no hot-shoe or PC socket.
Summary: Too new as Canon might fix/ modify some problems as production continues. Also expect the price to drop $50-$100 in next 4 months. Maybe under $900 by Xmas (Sales). Be very careful of the MemoryStick/Card camcorder contacts once erroded or loses its ability to make solid contact with the card it'll...
Pros: Apparently a great Camcorder. Your PC needs a Card Adapter, it'll transfer much faster than USB.
Cons: Why does the HF S10 have a lower resolution CMOS of 8 MP and not this one since both are rather identical? Uhm... buttons, mic sensitivity, low light noise. If dropped the lense/optics may giggle around. If you recieve it that way out of the box return for RMA. Software.
