Issues transferring videos to Mac

mikej, Amazon
20 January 2012
  • Summary: I really like a lot of things about this camcorder, it is compact, well-designed, and simple to use. Unfortunately, I have had a very difficult time transferring the video files from the camcorder to my Mac Laptop (Macbook Pro). I contacted Canon via email and phone customer services to ensure that I was using the correct protocol to transfer the files using iMovie. The information that I received via phone and email was consistent with the protocol I had been using.

The single greatest, and most overlooked reason NOT to buy this camcorder!

  • Summary: About the user/reviewer (i.e. me) First time buyer of an HD camera. I am a pretty zealous tech junkie overall, so I trust my review carries some weight for prospective buyers. Countless reviews on camera suggests it does an excellent job. I find it light weight, portable, easy to use. People complain about the LCD screen size and menu. With a camcorder of this size, you are going to have to accept the LCD is going to be equally small.

FRAGILE lens cover, TERRIBLE touch screen menus

Evans, Amazon
3 May 2011
  • Summary: Camera/tripod blew over in the wind and some sand got into the lens cover. Wouldn't open correctly. VERY FRAGILE! Took it to Canon repair (camera was 6 months old, still under warranty) and they want $249 to repair it!! If I'd known how fragile the shutter-style lens was, I'd either have put a UV filter over it or bought a different brand. Touch screen is TERRIBLE. Some menus you swipe up to scroll, others you swipe down. Always selecting the wrong thing.

do not buy if you have a mac

Samuel Brenner, Amazon

  • Summary: doesn't work for mac computers. I don't know why any company would decide to only make their product compatible with Windows...but Canon is one of them.
