The Canon HV30, like its predecessor, the HV20, is a very strong camcorder. The HV20 was praised, above all, for its video performance in both bright and low light. That much has remained true. The imaging system is identical. Unless the competition has made big strides forward since last year (), Canon may hold top honors once again. Read more

About the best out there for under $1000
Reviewer: Reviewer from Palo Alto, Amazon05 March 2008- Overall 8

I have owned the Canon HV30 for a little over a month. I have used it strictly for wildlife video in combination with the Canon TL-43 1.7x tele-converter and the DM50 directional microphone. The picture quality is fantastic for a camcorder at this price. I shoot in HD 30p with Cinema Mode enabled. I also enable peaking and use focus assist magnification for better manual focus. [..] there is not a full manual mode for adjusting exposure. Also the manual focus wheel is... Read more

Thinking of Trading in the HC3
...ould have stuck with the HC96 and used Standard Def since the 96 is better in low light thanks to the 1/3 size CCD. But I notice myself wanting to use the HC96 more often than the HC3 for this reason. So maybe it is time to sell off the HC3 and go with a Canon HV30 or Sonly HC7. My question is, how big an improvement will I see over the HC3 if I get one of these newer HDV cameras? I would definitely like to stick with HDV for now.

Best camcorder under $3k USD
...s available with give me: 1. Best video quality including low light such as in home in room lighting 2. DV format 3. Quality build to last many years of use 4. Under $3,000 US Dollars. If I need to go higher, but I would prefer not to. I've looked at the canon HV30 and the Sony HC9. Like the feel and build of the Sony, but reviews say the Canon is better. And I've looked at the Canon A1, but am I getting additional quality for the money? Thanks for your time and input.

Camcorder decision..
...ally good one so I wont have to buy another one for a long time. I am obviously going for hdv but I need to figure out whats worth it. I have always want one of those larger Pro cameras like the Canon XH-A1 or Sony's Z1 but are those good compared to the canon hv30 and the Sony HDR-HC7 or the soon coming Sony HDR-HC9. So those are the models I am looking at. Are the smaller camcorder starting to beat the pro ones now? Is there a better pro HDV cam I should be looking at or should I wait until AVCHD comes Out... I'm r...

please compare CES 2008 camcorders ASAP
...ing?) Panasonic HDC-SD9 (do the 1/6" CCD deliver a good 1080/30p image?) Sony HDR-SR11/SR12 (is it 1080i or 1080p at 30 Frames Per Sec?) Who offers best AVCHD image? Who offers manual controls? Who offers best audio controls and mic input? 2. HDV models: Canon HV30 (30p is great what other improvements?) Sony HDR-HC9 (does it have face detection & does it record 1080P?) Does HDV format allow for full 1080p recording or is it contained in 1080i compression? Who offers best manual controls? 3. Also wondering about 300F...

You helped me once....I need you again!!
...nuts compared to £1100 i've seen it listed at elsewhere) Sony HDR-SR7, a wee bit cheaper than the HD7, but i've heard reports the low-light performance is not great. But I love Sony stuff (My room looks like a temple of worship to the folks over there). Canon HV30 - I know the HV20 got rave reviews on here, so the upgrade has got to be just as good if not better yeah? The one question I've got is if the 1-chip CMOS is better than the 3CCD system, or is it too close to call. If anyone else has any other suggestions I...
