The new HV10 is the first time that Canon will try its hand in the exciting world of HD camcorders. While they do not have as much experience as some of the other manufacturers, the Canon HV10 is no slouch. When designing the HV10 it is obvious that Canon had one thing in mind; keeping the body as compact as possible. In the end they accomplished this task, and also packed the HV10 full of features. For this reason, the new HV10 is definitely going to be a major player in this field in the upcoming year.

One of the technological advantages of the HV10 is the ½.7” CMOS sensor that is used. This worked out great during bright light testing. Pictures were absolutely perfect with the HV10, with color dead on and noise being kept to a minimum. Overall, when it comes to image quality it is hard to believe that anybody is going to be able to outdo this model.

On the other side of things, the Canon HV10 is not quite as good in low light situations; in fact it was downright bad when it came to video quality. At even a moderately level of low light, the image shot by the HV10 looked darker than some camcorders do with even less light. To go along with the poor video quality, in low light situations noise was above average as well. This was a big surprise considering how well the Canon HV10 performed in bright light.

In conclusion, the Canon HV10 has a lot to offer. Not only does it have more features than the competition, but it is also far more compact. While the Canon HV10 will not win everybody over, it is safe to say that there is a large group of people who will fall in love with this product.
