Other Features
The HG10 is equipped with other advanced technologies that give high-quality results. It captures 1920x1080 high definition video with its CMOS sensor that is designed and manufactured by Canon. Canon’s CMOS has high resolution and advanced color reproduction, and noise reduction technology allowing HG10 to produce brilliant results. Another feature is Canon’s exclusive DIGIC DV II, designed specifically to high-definition optical image quality both for still images and video recording. DIGIC DV II also improves color reproduction; continuous shooting of digital photographs, and helps lower power consumption for longer battery life. Another exclusive Canon innovation is its SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization System. It combines gyro-and image-sensor to give image stabilization through wider camera range and produce steady shots even when shooting at long focal length.

Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, few people have the displays to play back full HD in all its glory. And yes, you’re going to have to invest in some serious storage to archive this footage rather than simply filing cheap tapes. But still, this is a lovely camera that’s easy to use – at least in automatic mode – and produces cracking footage that’s a doddle to edit in iMovie ’08. Read more

So what, in the end, did we think about Canon’s first HDD camcorder and their first AVCHD camcorder in our labs? Simply put, we are very impressed. Canon has taken the camcorder industry and made it theirs this year. It doesn’t try to compete with Sony on volume, which is a wise move. In its own words, Canon is quite conservative. It watches and waits to see what people want, then put all its technology into just a few models. The HV20 was absolutely the best HDV camc... Read more

Motion Artifacts AVCHD Codec, an explanation
Reviewer: T., Amazon15 February 2008- Overall 6

The Motion artifacts were a disappointment. I am NOT a tech, but based on research, I understand the following: 1) [From United States Patent 5313280 Description] A typical television signal, when digitized, produces a data stream of about 100 to 150 megabits per second (Mbps) before compression. Compressed video data streams usually range from 56 kilobits per second (kbps) to 45 Mbps. The receiving codec expands or decompresses the digital signal, then converts it ba... Read more

Another Impression Of HG 10
Reviewer: mad4mac, Epinions06 January 2008- Overall 8

As a new HG10 user agree in total with the review by f8ster. Very accurate. I am a Mac Power PC user (Mac Intel users can read .mts format) and was initially frustrated till I found Voltaic - http://mac1080hd.com/ which allows a conversion of the .mts files to Quicktime. Only downside is the files at almost four times larger than the .mts. Results are good though and editing easy in the regular Mac formats. Have tested a demo version of Sony Vegas on my PC and it mayb... Read more

Great Camera
Reviewer: PaceOut, Walmart02 January 2008- Overall 10

- Value for money 10

We have a new child and wanted a camera that could perform at those special moments. I have never owned or used a digital video camera, but due to cost I had very high expectations in the HG10. Over the past month I have used the camera every couple of days to record birthdays, Christmas, and other special moments. As a Network Administrator of a Telecommunications company, I spent A LOT of time researching to make sure my new camera would have some of the more advanc... Read more

A Question?
Your choice of the Canon HG10 proves to be a good choice. Did you say that you used a plug in microphone rather than the built-in mic? The sound is excellent too.

Sony KDS-50A3000 and Canon HG10 will it work?
have a Canon HG10 and I want to enjoy the video I take on a HDTV. I am interested in purchasing a Sony KDS-50A3000. According to the CNET review it fails for 1080i film resolution. Will my Canon HG10 work with this TV. What is a potential problem for having 1080i film resol...
