Summary: The videos looks like they're from the 90's. Very pixelated, poor color, even in day light. Don't let me get started with interiors or at night. It does have a light which helps a little but a point and shoot camera does it better in the recording function. Big mistake to buy this camera. If you have a modern tv, meaning... you don't have a tube old tv... forget about it, it wont work at all. Blurry, pixelated and awful colour.
Summary: After all the positive reviews and YouTube posts and doing a month of research I settled on buying this camcorder. I received it and tested it and returned it within 24 hours. Video was grainy and had noise when you zoomed in. Objects you zoomed in on would maintain focus but move the camera to the left or right and back to the object again and focus would never regain. Battery life was practically draining as soon as I put it in the camera and turned it on.
Summary: I purchased this product from Amazon and I got it home by Friday afternoon. By Saturday morning I knew I was going to send it back. Let me state that I was not looking for anything fancy - just a small camera for taking videos of the kids inside the home and out. I trust Canon, but sadly this camera doesn't deliver.
Summary: Even the new iMovie will not open the MOD. video file format. The documentation (PDF) is practically useless. Mac users should plan to spend an additional $35 for software to convert the video files if you want to do anything besides watch the raw clips (which you can only do on the computer with free downloaded software). The Canon provided software for the Mac only handles the JPEG images.
Summary: I went out on a walk in order to try my new camera. On the little display, everything looked very nice. When I got home and downloaded the video on my laptop, I was very disappointed. The quality was so bad, that even a cell phone camera would do a better job. The outdoor conditions were perfect - it was sunny, no clouds, a perfect light condition. The image was not smooth, but rather grained. I returned this product, since my photo does better video than this camera.
Summary: I bought this for use when the camera is mounted low on a tripod and using the viewfinder conventionally is difficult or even impossible if it's over water for example. Well, unless you get your swimsuit on. For that task, it's ok. Just ok. The problem lies with the fact that at its normal setting it's not 1:1, it's 1.25 so you don't see the whole frame, and as the 5D mk II doesn't have a 100% viewfinder as it is, you see even less of the frame.
Summary: I expected more from this camera, having done the research I did. I'm far from a camcorder expert but I'll list the problems I had: 1. Overall picture quality was not much better than a sony camcorder I bought over 9 years ago. I heard that this was one of the better standard definition camcorders available, but having nothing recent to compare it to I can't really say how better it is against other standard def models around.
