Summary: I read about others having a lens fade to black problem, and sure enough within the year. When you drop something to a hard floor, the LCD cracks; here, just bumping into something while you just carry the camera will fade to black on this first release Beta for flash memory cards.
Summary: Average Camera, Large body compare to its function and other similar brands, and worst of all really bad quality software, Returned this camera in a week, bought JVC. I am satisfied with quality and price.
Summary: It might just be a difference between flash memory camcorders and camcorders that record on discs, but the quality of picture (especially still pictures) is very low for this item. I would not recommend this item, you are better off with a regular camera that takes video or a disc recorder.
I got stuck when it came to moving the movie off the camera
1 August 2008
Summary: I really liked this camera for shooting video. It worked fine and I was easily able to figure it out quickly. Then the world came crashing down when I tried to get the video off of the camera. I am a teacher trying to use the video to earn my national board certification.
Good Unit but has a devastating single point failure
Jon Lopez, Amazon
13 July 2008
Summary: The camera itself is really quite good, with proper lighting the unit is capable of recording high quality stills and moving footage. The microphone is also above average. Essentially this is a really good unit, but it is susceptible to an extremely devastating single point failure.
Summary: This camera sounds great if you read all these reviews, but I'm here to set the record straight. Pros- Optical Zoom Stability How fast it loads up in iMovie 08 Microphone seems to record parties well.
Big Design Flaw - Requires AC Power for PC Transfers
M. A. Krosse, Amazon
13 July 2008
Summary: The FS100 camcorder firmware forces the device to be on AC power, plugged into a wall socket, in order to transfer from camera to a PC laptop. So if you are out in the field miles from a wall socket, even with fully charged batteries, you are out-of-luck trying to save, edit, or transmit your work.
Summary: The standard definition is just VGA. The .MOD format has to be changed to .MPG and the widescreen flag set before it can be edited or played with some software players. The sound is however excellent. Low light performance is very poor. Handling is good.
Pros: Looks the business, but its only skin deep!
Cons: Picture quality is poor, worse than my Mini DV it replaces.
Summary: This should be an excellent camera, but we were dissapointed. It is very light and easy to use, but the picture quality is bad. The focus is very slow to adapt and when panning, the image when played back, jumps accross the screen in stages with horizontal break lines.
