Summary: Great if you want it more for the video aspect and not still images. Somewhat time consuming trying to figure out all the options.
Pros: Great camera! Digital video quality is excellent!
Cons: Still picture quality is ok, but for me, the color seems to bleed. For example I was on vacation last week and was taking some pictures where the wall was a pinkish color. When I took the pictures and reviewed them , everything had a pinkish tint to it, even the main subject matter of the picture.
Summary: The Canon DC40 is a great camera in all levels of light. I just got back from Disney and filmed the fireworks show. I've never had any luck filming things like this but with this camera set on the special "Fireworks" setting it looked as good as the firework shows you see on TV.
Summary: I've had this camera for 6 mos. now. This is a great option for those not wanting to carry two different cameras. Switching between video and still is quick and easy. The quality of the pictures and video are superior to others. My brothers own comparables Sonys and a Panasonic.
Summary: Very compact, light and easy to hold - full marks for design. Buttons etc can take a bit of getting used to, but ok once mastered. Main downside for me it only takes DVD-R/RW- and not DVD-R/RW+, bit of a problem when you pick up the wrong ones!
Summary: It's excellent dvd camcorder but has some problems with the execution of the edition software to keep the archives in little traditional formats. In general it's an excellent option of purchase.
Summary: It is a pretty good camera. Its my first camcorder, I bought it because I had a baby in October and need to capture everything, and my Nikon digital wasn't doing it for me. The optical zoom is great, its pretty easy to use, and I love that you can just press the finalize button wait a little bit and...
Summary: I bought this camera for general use and like it a lot. Compared to other cameras ive owned this one has very good sound recording capability. It's ergonomics are good and its pleasant to use for the most part.
Summary: I really do love this camera, yet, there are a few drawbacks, that I would have liked to know prior to purchasing: 1) It does take time to initialize and finalize discs (and must be plugged in and NOT MOVED to do so) which isn't horrible, but somewhat annoying.
Summary: Great camera for the price. I was deciding between this one, sony, and a panasonic model. I was really bummed out about the night mode performance... it maked it almost useless unless you want "blurvision". I've always loved anything that feels nice and solid/well built and this camera is just that.
Pros: Automatic lens cover is great. Build quality! it feels very solidly constructed. Nice LCD and menuing. Auto focus is fast. Zooming in and out is very smooth, couple different speed options. Very nice to watch the footage on the camera when you fold the LCD back into itself.
Cons: Can't Finalize disc unless plugged into the wall. Night mode sucks pretty bad. Video quality could be better. A couple buttons are hard to reach w/ one hand.
Summary: After looking into a camcorder with DVD capability and the flexibility of good still photos, I decided to go with the Canon DC40. It has everything I wanted and is easy to use, at least up until this point (I haven't transferred photos or movies to my computer).
