There are many reasons that you may want to consider the Canon DC 10, as well as a few that could drive you away. First and foremost, the Canon DC 10 is easy to use and operate. So obviously, beginners to shooting videos will find this model to be a perfect choice. But on the downside of things the DC 10 does not offer enough features for advanced videographers to feel comfortable. Additionally, the image quality could stand for a bit of improvement as well. As you can see, the DC 10 is either a hit or miss. Some people will love what it has to offer, while others will pass it by for more advanced options.

Even though DVD players are superior to VHS players in the home, this is not necessarily true in the world of camcorders. Although DVD camcorders such as the DC 10 make it easier to store video, they are not as good as MiniDV models as far as resolution and quality is concerned.

The biggest benefit of the Canon DC 10 is that it can burn videos to DVDs in real time. The DVDs are half sized 80mm discs that load into the side of the unit. The ability to accommodate these half sized discs is the reason that the DC 10 is shaped like it is; and this is a good thing. Holding onto and shooting with the Canon DC 10 is much easier than some models from competing manufacturers.

There is still a long way to go before DVD camcorders catch up in the way of video quality. The DC 10 does an okay job as far as quality and color is concerned, but it is not nearly as good as some of the competition.

For a beginner who is looking for a DVD camcorder the Canon DC 10 is a viable option. Just make sure that you also take a look at what the competition has to offer.

The Canon DC10 is one of two camcorders marking Canon’s first entry into the DVD camcorder market (the other being the D20). In the past, DVD cams have largely proven to be convenience-oriented gizmos with little to offer in the way of manual control. While some of them take decent video, they can rarely compete with comparably priced MiniDV cams. Canon had a few years to study the market before they released the DC10. Did they make any improvements? Read more

I have to say this was one of the most promising, yet disappointing cameras I have ever reviewed. That is a terrible shame because the problem is not in the camera itself but in the choice of DVD as a recording format. As I made clear at the beginning of this review, the camera is one of the physically best designed I've seen and it has a whole raft of excellent features such as Programmed AE, Tv and Av settings and so on. If you shoot your videos extremely carefully,... Read more

This camera is a peice of ....., the second time now I just lost all of what I recorded on the disk. I tried to finalize the disk, but instead it destroyed the data on the disk and I can never get the once in a lifetime stuff recovered, if you purchase this camcorder you are makuing a mistake, I am very unhappy with my purchase and hope this little write up saves someone else some money and hardship. This adapter should be sold with the tele-converter lens since neither can be used without the other. The adapter is an easy fit to the camera and it, together with the lens, easily swings down and out of the way. Focusing must be done with the LCD. Read more

I think it never allows you to start finalizing if the AC is not switched ON, But disconnecting AC while finalizing is bad news. That`s time and power consuming process and if it runs out of power before completing, bye bye data... I have shot 100+ cheap -R discs, LP mode on most of them, 2 lost data, not a bad percentage overall... Once I dropped it on a wooden floor from about 1.5 meters while walking and shooting. The disc finalized and the drop was recorded... Read more
