Summary: I purchased this item thinking that it was a "plug and play" kind of item, just like every other electronic device I have purchased in the past 10 years. Not the case with this one. I didn't read the product description properly and therefore I had to do some work to get the desktop going. You have to install your own memory, hard drive and Operating System. I needed some real help and I found it at a local computer repair shop in Michigan.
Summary: A decent little HTPC. However, the fan is still pretty noisy even after I upgraded the BIOS. Maybe it's just that I am more sensitive to noise than an average person?? The product should come with an instruction how to upgrade the BIOS, though -- I had to spend some time online to find out how to do this. Another important thing is about the on-board wireless adapter. Some reviews say that the reception is bad, which, in my mind, is only half the truth.
Summary: I was a little concerned that the Z-BOX would be a bit underpowered, but the new atom processor coupled with the ION chip set give it plenty of go. With win7 it works right out of the box, although you'll need to get the latest NVIDIA drivers (windows update has these as optional updates), and it required a Bios update to quiet the fan, but once that was done it was pretty much inaudible, especially with the TV on.
Summary: Whats Good... 1. Fast CPU/GPU 2. Boots From USB or other devices with ease. 3. Small and Quiet (Quiet after firmware update) 4. DVI, HDMI, Optical, Esata...who could ask for more? 5. Makes a fantastic HTPC. Works great with linux/xbmc... Bad... 1. Needs Bios update for quieter operation. 2. Confusing Bios for Boot Options (select hard disk first, then boot priority...confusing at first) 3. Runs Hot. Not hot enough to roast anything, but far warmer than i would expect. 4.
Summary: Very satisfied with this HTPC. Installed Win 7 Ultimate, a WD 500GB HD, 4 GB RAM and XBMC software to complete my HTPC setup. My only criticism is the included Wireless-N Network Card from Atheros is just short of useless. I updated all the drivers and still the wireless connectivity is POOR to NON-EXISTANT. Chats with ZOTAC Tech Support have not really been any help. Their suggestion is to install a USB Wireless Adapter and I refuse to do that.
Summary: Picked up a copy of WinXPHome Online and installed with no problems. Hooked it up to a 32-inch Flatscreen TV, paired this to a Lenovo USB Mini-Keyboard and it works schweet! My only issue is that it runs pretty hot compared to an Asus EeeBox PC.
