Ok Desktop for the price

Chao-Yi Y., Newegg
6 August 2007
  • Summary: If you are lookin for something cheap then this is for you. If you are alooking for something with a little bit more function then i suggest not to buy this
  • Pros: Priced nicely. Came with many different programs already. Basically the only good thing this has going for it tis price.
  • Cons: Does not come with : needed memory (only comes with one gig) grafics card ( integrated grafics) office (only able to use student 2007 25 times!!!) and not a good mouse. No speakers either

Gaming Potential

Garen C., Newegg
15 July 2007
  • Summary: out of the box this isn't a high-end PC. not sure how important processors will be to Vista gaming, but a little extra work and the right upgrades will really turn this thing around.
  • Pros: i installed a Sapphire X1950XT into this model, which fit fine, along with an Audigy sound card from my previous comp. the new power supply barely fit, i think because the DVD drive that comes with it is a bit long. the point is: i was able to fit everything and i havent had any problems with thi...
  • Cons: as confirmed by another reviewer, the intel graphics on this thing is absolute balls. i had to purchase a 600 watt power supply by Ultra to power a new g-card. also, while taking out old power supply i accidentally knocked off one of the SATA connectors on the board. granted i was careless, but i...

a6040n

Anonymous, Newegg
1 July 2007
  • Summary: I replaced the telephone modem with a Wireless network adapter(I could have used one of the other PCI slots, but i was worried about the PSU overloading due to the Video card) and it works fine. I didn't actually buy this at Newegg, because i found it elsewhere for $545 - that was a steal.
  • Pros: The newer Core 2 model(The E6320 has twice the L2 Cache of the E6300), Card Reader, 2GB of DDR2 533 Memory, all make this computer very capable with Windows Vista. This computer is actually faster than I expected. Inexpensive for the power.
  • Cons: The integrated graphics are some of the worst out there (Intel on-board graphics suck), so I installed an ATI Radeon X1050, and it's much better now. If you buy this, I recommend getting a low-end/mid range graphics card for it(high end graphics cards will put too much stress on the 250W PSU, and...

HP a6000n and Windows XP Drivers

Richard P., Newegg
13 June 2007
  • Pros: its a computer, and its pretty cheap.
  • Cons: Get the drivers for the 430 chipset from nvidia. The version that includes the onboard video drivers is vista only. There are 2 xp drivers one is for "media center". I used the standard XP one (8.26_11.09_nforce_winxp_english.exe). To get the video drivers I searched google for awhile and came up...

A good rating, with some reservbations (and questions)

Allen K., Newegg
30 May 2007
  • Summary: I'd like to keep this computer, if possible. I have so much work done on Windows XP-only programs - like Adobe Photoshop! - that I'm hoping to go the dual-boot route. Thanks to all on this website for advice.
  • Pros: A sweet computer – strong and steady and super quiet. Easy to set up. Synch's well with Vista or Vista-capable software programs. Nice HD partitioning function. An excellent choice if one's looking for a new computer and doesn't have too much work invested in earlier Windows programs, e.g. Window...
  • Cons: Little tech support from HP, and none regarding Windows XP/Vista conflicts. The XP/Vista conflict is a BIG problem, but is that solely a problem with HP? Comes with Roxio Basic, which is great for simple CD/DVD copying, but extremely slow when making selective burns. Wimpy keyboard.

This machine is a nightmare!

Michael Fumento, Amazon
29 May 2007
  • Summary: I have been buying computers since 1982, including desktops, laptops, and more recently for my wife. Each one has worked out of the box. This was the sole exception. The CD/DVD player crashed the system with each CD I tried to play.

XP on a6000n

Anonymous, Newegg
26 May 2007
  • Summary: You could build your own pc for about the same money.
  • Pros: Nice prebuilt machine for the money. It is possible to install XP on this. Go to nvidia's driver download page and get the 430 chipset driver pack, also get the forceware video drivers. Go to Realteks page and get the HD audio drivers. Lastly go to Conexant to get the modem drivers. You will have...
  • Cons: HP has 0 support for XP on this machine, but it is possible to install it fine.

User Review

Christian M., Newegg
6 May 2007
  • Summary: Just to clear the air about running a dual boot with XP...it's possible. I'm successfully running a dual boot with XP Pro and Vista, and haven't had any problems with it so far (knock on wood). Just google the chipset and you can find the drivers (although it took me a little bit).
  • Pros: Great price for an average everday use computer. Will more than likely need to upgrade parts if wanting to do more than basic daily activities (i.e. Memory, Power Supply, Video Card, ect). Out of the box there's alot of benefits for the price and I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a moderate...
  • Cons: Lots of pre-installed software that I didn't really need.
